Over an eight-year period 172 patients received allograft from a living, related donor, 112 cadaveric transplants, and 125 were placed on home dialysis. In of three years, 287 passed through our center dialysis program. Analysis survival curves shows that patient was significantly better in recipients transplants donors than those receiving cadaver graft. One-year rates for parental, sibling allografts 84.2, 89.5 68.7 per cent respectively. Survival at one two years home-dialysis 88.5 77.8...

Uremic pericarditis occurred in 41% of 83 patients admitted to the chronic dialysis program at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. In vast majority these was present before and cleared clinically after beginning therapy. Instances that developed during regular were associated with metabolic stress such as surgery or infection inadequate dialysis. When failed resolve usually died sepsis had severe tamponade which necessitated early pericardiectomy. The two cases reported illustrate resorption...

Of 225 patients who underwent renal transplantation, 100 (44%) later demonstrated osseous changes. Avascular necrosis was seen at the femoral head in 56 and other sites 21. Subperiosteal resorption found 48, osteosclerosis 24, pathological fractures 30. Other lesions included brown tumors, osteomyelitis, osteopenia, periostitis. These findings represent most aspects of skeletal involvement failure following transplantation.

By using a 125I collimated point source to measure bone mineral, 700 measurements were obtained from the cortical of lower arm in 303 patients with renal failure representing every stage disease. Of these patients, 123 had received transplants. The following conclusions can be drawn: (a) Prolonged azotemia leads severe loss which, early stages, is only detectable photon absorptiometry. (b) Gradual mineral occurs during dialysis, (c) Parathyroidectomy slows this but fails reverse it. (d)...

Serum lactic dehydrogenase (LDH), glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), and amylase levels were determined in 76 chronically uremic patients. LDH was increased 77% of 486 determinations, only 10% the abnormal could be accounted for by pathological conditions known to increase LDH. GOT generally normal. 32% 175 determinations. There is a high incidence We caution against overinterpretation these findings costly often unnecessary search their significance.
