Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is the most common congenital disease. Longitudinal studies of infants with cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection have demonstrated an association between CMV and SNHL. However, because lack suitable neonatally collected specimens, proportion CMV-associated SNHL has not been defined, nor relationship major genetic causes SNHL, such as mutations in GJB2 gene.Sixty-seven children severe were analyzed for human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) infections mutations. DNA...

The UL51 gene of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) encodes a phosphoprotein whose homologs are conserved throughout the family. Recently, we reported that protein colocalizes with Golgi marker proteins in transfected cells and targeting to apparatus depends on palmitoylation its N-terminal cysteine at position 9 (N. Nozawa, T. Daikoku, Koshizuka, Y. Yamauchi, Yoshikawa, Nishiyama, J. Virol. 77:3204-3216, 2003). However, role HSV replication cycle was unknown. Here, generated UL51-null...

ABSTRACT The UL56 gene product of herpes simplex virus (HSV) has been shown to play an important role in viral pathogenicity. However, the properties and functions protein are little understood. We raised rabbit polyclonal antisera specific for HSV type 2 (HSV-2) examined its expression properties. was identified as three polypeptides with apparent molecular masses ranging from 32 35 kDa HSV-2-infected cells, at least one species phosphorylated. Studies their origins showed that HSV-2 is...

The herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) UL51 gene products are virion-associated phosphoproteins with apparent molecular masses of 27, 29, and 30 kDa in HSV-1-infected cells. In this study, we have investigated the intracellular localization distribution protein both infected cells transfected expressing only UL51. We found that colocalized closely Golgi marker proteins such as Golgi-58K GM130 However, cells, localized to juxtanuclear region but partially maker proteins. Mutant analysis...

We investigated human cytomegalovirus pathogenesis by comparing infection with the low-passage, endotheliotropic strain VR1814 and attenuated laboratory AD169 in placental villi as explants vitro xenografts transplanted into kidney capsules of SCID mice (ie, severe combined immunodeficiency). In this vivo placentation model, cytotrophoblasts invade renal parenchyma, remodel resident arteries, induce a robust lymphangiogenic response. replicated villous cell column reduced formation anchoring...

Since congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection causes late-onset sequelae, the identification of CMV-infected newborns is important. For this purpose, we established a simple real-time PCR assay using filter disk. Combined with collection urine papers placed in diaper, can make CMV screening more feasible and cost-effective.

Abstract The in vitro microbicidal activity of benzoyl peroxide against Cutibacterium acnes , Staphylococcus aureus epidermidis Escherichia coli Pseudomonas aeruginosa Candida albicans Malassezia furfur restricta, and globosa was investigated. These strains were incubated for 1 h the presence 0.25, 0.5, 1, or 2 mmol/L phosphate buffered saline supplemented with 0.1% glycerol 2% Tween 80. After exposure to peroxide, counts viable Gram‐positive bacteria fungi markedly decreased, whereas...

To simplify the titration of infectious varicella-zoster virus (VZV), we generated a reporter cell line that produced luciferase in dose-dependent manner upon infection with cell-free VZV. A few VZV-infected cells were detectable by coculturing line. We demonstrated usefulness for antiviral studies.

BackgroundAmenamevir (AMNV) is a helicase-primase inhibitor with antiviral activity against herpesviruses [herpes simplex viruses (HSV)-1 and -2, varicella-zoster virus], which are associated the development of acute herpetic pain (AHP) postherpetic neuralgia. However, inhibitory effects inhibitors on AHP neuralgia remain incompletely understood.ObjectiveIn this study, we investigated AMNV (PHP) in HSV-1-infected mice accompanied by zosteriform-like skin lesions.MethodsHSV-1 was...

In a previous study we determined that administration of recombinant feline interferon-omega (rFeIFN-omega) could protect Japanese pearl oysters Pinctada fucata martensii from akoya-virus infection. Our results suggested rFeIFN-omega enhanced the potential agranulocytes to phagocytize necrotic cells and produce collagen fibers repair lesions caused by akoya-virus. present study, using an indirect immunofluorescence technique with anti-rFeIFN-omega rabbit serum, examined whether hemocytes...

Summary Background Lanoconazole (LCZ) is a topical antifungal agent clinically used to treat fungal infections such as tinea pedis. LCZ has not only effects but also anti‐inflammatory effects, which have the potential provide additional clinical benefits. However, characteristic features of inhibitory on skin inflammation remain unclear. Objective We evaluated application LCZ, and compared with those other agents including liranaftate, terbinafine amorolfine. Methods Each was topically...
