We studied the two-step martensitic transition of a Cu-Al-Ni shape-memory alloy by calorimetry, acoustic emission (AE), and resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (RUS) measurements. The occurs under cooling from cubic $(\ensuremath{\beta}, Fm3m)$ parent phase near 242 K to mixture orthorhombic $2H$ monoclinic $18R$ phases. Heating leads first back transformation small domains $\ensuremath{\beta}$ and/or 255 K, then 280 K. total enthalpy is...

Elastic and anelastic properties of poled depoled single crystals Pb(In1/2Nb1/2)O3-Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 with compositions close to the morphotropic boundary have been investigated over temperature range 5–700 K by resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (RUS) at frequencies 0.1–1.2 MHz. Steep elastic softening occurs in a interval least 250 as Vogel-Fulcher freezing cubic → tetragonal transition point, Tc, are approached from above. This is understood terms coupling between acoustic modes...

Magnetic phase transitions in RCo2 Laves phases with R as a rare earth element are accompanied by changes crystallographic space group. For purely structural they would be described improper ferroelastic and therefore fulfil the condition for multiferroic combining two out of three properties, ferro/antiferromagnetism, ferroelectricity ferroelasticity. Here lattice parameter data from literature new measurements elastic anelastic resonant ultrasound spectroscopy, NdCo2 ErCo2 have been...

A group theoretical model is proposed for linear/quadratic coupling between order parameters which arise from electronic and soft-mode instabilities in doped shape memory alloys, together with to symmetry breaking shear strains. This tested by using resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (RUS) follow the elastic anelastic anomalies accompany transitions B2 B19, 9R, incommensurate structures ${\mathrm{Ti}}_{50}{\mathrm{Pd}}_{50\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Cr}}_{x}$ alloy samples...

The elastic moduli and acoustic loss behaviour of Ti-6Al-4V (wt.%) in the temperature range 5–298 K have been studied using Resonant Ultrasound Spectroscopy. A peak dissipation was observed at 160 within frequency 250–1000 kHz. Analysis data acquired this study, coupled with complementary from literature, showed that consistent a Snoek-like relaxation process an associated activation energy 23 3 kJ mol. However, broader than would be expected for relaxation, underlying shown to spread times....
