Raman microspectroscopy has been applied to follow structural changes in spark discharge (GfG) soot and light-duty diesel vehicle (LDV) upon oxidation gasification by nitrogen oxides oxygen a exhaust aftertreatment model system at 523 573 K. spectra have recorded before during the process, spectral parameters determined curve fitting with five bands (G, D1−D4). For GfG soot, steep initial decrease of relative intensity D3 band suggested rapid preferential highly reactive amorphous carbon...

Abstract Interphase with nacre‐like structured multilayer is constructed by alternatively depositing two polymers, respectively “rigid” polydopamine (PDA) and “flexible” polyether amine, on carbon fiber surface via the layer‐by‐layer (LbL) approach. The optimal interfacial strength toughness are achieved for composites three layers of PDA/polyether respectively, 39.2% 99.8% superior to untreated composites. outstanding mechanical properties mainly ascribed synergistic interactions covalent...

Chitinase-3–like protein 1 (CHI3L1) is primarily secreted by activated astrocytes in the brain and known as a reliable biomarker for inflammatory central nervous system (CNS) conditions such neurodegeneration autoimmune disorders like neuromyelitis optica (NMO). NMO an astrocyte disease caused autoantibodies targeting astroglial aquaporin 4 (AQP4) leads to vision loss, motor deficits, cognitive decline. In this study examining CHI3L1’s biological function neuroinflammation, we found that...

Tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB) signaling plays a pivotal role in dendritic growth and spine formation to promote learning memory. The activity-dependent release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor at synapses binds pre- or postsynaptic TrkB resulting the strengthening synapses, reflected by long-term potentiation. Postsynaptically, association density protein-95 with enhances phospholipase Cγ-Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein II phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-mechanistic target...

Development of engineered protein materials with wide-ranging mechanical strength and stiffness while maintaining the biofunctionality molecules within remains a big challenge. Here we demonstrate synthesis hydrogels by photochemically cross-linking recombinant mussel foot protein-3 (Mfp3). The hydrogels' can be broadly tuned adjusting concentration polymers or co-oxidants, light intensity needed for chemical cross-linking. were also designed to contain SpyCatcher domains, which enabled...

Cell surface receptors, including erythropoietin-producing hepatocellular A4 (EphA4), are important in regulating hippocampal synapse loss, which is the key driver of memory decline Alzheimer’s disease (AD). However, cell-specific roles and mechanisms EphA4 unclear. Here, we show that expression elevated CA1 astrocytes AD conditions. Specific knockout astrocytic ameliorates excitatory loss hippocampus transgenic mouse models. Single-nucleus RNA sequencing analysis revealed inhibition...

Adenylyl cyclases (ACs) generate cAMP, a second messenger of utmost importance that regulates vast array biological processes in all kingdoms life. However, almost nothing is known about how AC activity regulated through protein degradation mediated by ubiquitination or other mechanisms. Here, we show transcriptional regulator interacting with the PHD-bromodomain 1 (TRIP-Br1, Sertad1), newly identified poorly characterized functions, acts as an adaptor bridges interaction multiple isoforms...

Although assembly of recombinant proteins by SpyTag/SpyCatcher chemistry has proven to be a versatile approach for creating bioactive hydrogels, the resulting Spy networks often exhibit weak mechanics due poor efficiency interchain cross-linking. Here we leverage metal/ligand (i.e., cobalt/His6-tag) coordination interactions modulate bulk protein networks. The drastic difference between Co2+ and Co3+ complexes in thermodynamic kinetic properties enabled us regulate materials' immobilize...

Abstract The chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs) are large groups of heterogenous that mainly expressed by reactive astrocytes in the central nervous system (CNS). They share similar core proteins and post-transcriptionally modified glycosaminoglycans. CSPGs major components perineuronal nets (PNN) regulate opening closure critical period.
