Abstract We used local P and S waves, regional Lg waves to investigate the M w 4.9 Offshore Jeju Island earthquake, whose records show evidence of a complex rupture. This earthquake provides rare window understand seismogenesis moderate‐sized earthquakes on southern Korea–East China Sea continental shelf. computed relative source time functions (RSTFs) by aligning signals origin main its empirical Green's function (EGF) events, allowing us use them as differential times EGF pair. determined...
Abstract The Mw 4.9 Offshore Jeju Island, Korea, earthquake of 14 December 2021 is the most significant event that occurred close to young intraplate volcano on continental shelf south Korean Peninsula. About 185 small earthquakes during nine days following mainshock. We accurately located 39 events despite limited station azimuthal coverage. found mainshock ruptured along a ∼1.4 km long fault striking east–west (275°) and triggered two distinct clusters in north–northeast direction. pure...
ABSTRACT We identified the causative fault of 2022 Goesan, Korea, earthquake sequence based on precise relocation that revealed a 0.8 km-long plane striking east-southeast–west-northwest. The encompasses largest foreshock, mainshock, and majority aftershocks. orientation is consistent with left-lateral strike-slip motion along east-southeast (106°) nodal focal mechanism. Jogok system recently mapped in source area runs through mainshock epicenter strike motion, which suggests it likely Mw...
Abstract On 5 April 2024, an earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred in Tewksbury, New Jersey. It was the largest instrumentally recorded event since 1900 Jersey and southern York. Millions people around York City, ∼65 km east-northeast felt shaking from mainshock, but epicentral area experienced no known significant property damages. We determine focal mechanism, which is oblique faulting, retrieve Lg-wave relative source time functions (RSTFs) stations at regional distances to understand...
Abstract Oceanic intraplate earthquakes are closely associated with seafloor geologic features, such as knolls, fracture zones, and seamounts. However, this inference is often challenged by significant earthquake location uncertainties difficulties in detecting small earthquakes, largely owing to limited station coverage. In study, we used ocean-bottom seismometer data from the Oldest-1 array consisting of 12 sites, which part Pacific array, construct a one-year catalog for events on oldest...
ABSTRACT Two significant earthquakes of magnitude ML 4.6 and 4.5 occurred on 18 January 3 December 2021 in the central region Yellow Sea, respectively. The beneath Gunsan sedimentary basin at about 10 km depth with a strike-slip faulting mechanism nodal planes striking northwest–southeast (NW–SE) north-northeast–south-southwest (NNE–SSW). Despite lack close-by seismographic stations, we successfully utilized regional Lg-wave observations both coasts sea—the Korean peninsula east eastern...
