Abstract Background This pilot study was carried out to determine whether Helicobacter pylori can be detected in normal colon or association with colorectal neoplasia. Methods Paraffin processed colonic tissue blocks of mucosa (n = 60), and patients diagnosed as adenoma adenocarcinoma 60) were retrieved from our archive; the group included tubular 20), tubulovillous 20) villous adenomas 20). 4 μm sections stained by immunohistochemical methods using anti- antibodies (polyclonal NCL-HPp...

Background and Objectives Haemorrhage‐associated calcium loss may lead to disruption of platelet function, intrinsic extrinsic pathway‐mediated haemostasis cardiac contractility. Among shocked major trauma patients, we aimed investigate the association between admission hypocalcaemia adverse outcomes. Materials Methods Data were extracted from Alfred Trauma Registry Applications Knowledge Management Department for all adult patients presenting directly scene with a shock index ≥1 1 July 2014...

Breast cancer commonly metastasises to the brain, but little is known about changes in molecular profile of brain secondaries and impact on clinical outcomes. Patients with samples from metastases matched breast cancers were included. Immunohistochemical analysis for oestrogen receptor, progesterone p27kip1, cyclin D1, epidermal growth factor insulin like 1, 1 vascular endothelial A, transforming factor-β HER2 receptor was performed. Borderline results analysed by fluorescent situ...

We report a case of compassionate use haemoglobin-based oxygen carrier in severely injured Jehovah's Witness patient, for whom survival was considered unlikely. Severe anaemia and cardiac hypoxia were reversed after slow infusion this agent. No vasoactive side effects associated with the treatment, possibly due to infusion, patient survived.

autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is thought to present rarely in old people. The aims of the study were (i) review individuals diagnosed clinically as having AIH presenting over or under 65 years age at Freeman Hospital, Newcastle, from 1979 1993 and (ii) compare diagnostic histological scores, treatment outcome, hence provide a useful profile disease older patients.310 with diagnosis chronic identified, medical notes 286 revealed 54 AIH. Of these, 12 (22%) > =65 presentation.at presentation, mean...

CD44 and its variant isoforms are a group of transmembrane glycoproteins which play important roles in immune recognition, lymphocyte trafficking, cell–cell cell–matrix interactions. Although is expressed by some normal human epithelial mesenchymal cells, upregulation expression has been related to the metastatic potential malignant tumours. In this study 27 hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs), an indirect immunohistochemical method was used investigate distribution liver determine whether...

Abstract Background As an adjunct to non-operative management, splenic artery embolization (SAE) has been increasingly utilized throughout the world and is now standard of care for hemodynamically stable patients. This study aimed retrospectively assess rate salvage complications after SAE blunt trauma at a level 1 center using 2018 update AAST criteria, further sub-stratify role angiography in grade III injuries with significant hemoperitoneum. All patients between January 2009 2019 who...

The wide-spread use of an initial 'Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) 8 or less' to define and dichotomise 'severe' from 'mild' 'moderate' traumatic brain injury (TBI) is out-dated research heuristic that has become epidemiological convenience transfixing clinical care. Triaging based on GCS can delay the care patients who have rapidly evolving injuries. Sole reliance therefore provide a false sense security caregivers fail timely for presenting with greater than 8. Nearly 50 years after development -...

Abstract A procedure for the simultaneous extraction and purification of four calcimedins from chicken gizzard, rat liver, bovine liver is described. These proteins bind to hydrophobic resins in a calcium‐dependent manner similar calmodulin troponin C. The purified had molecular weights 67,000 (67K), 35,000 (35K), 33,000 (33K), 30,000 (30K) as determined by SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Their ability calcium was demonstrated using Hummel‐Dreyer method. tissue concentration ranged...

BACKGROUND: Carcinoma of the prostate metastasising to penis is rare. These patients have a poor prognosis receiving various treatment modalities. CASE PRESENTATION: Two such are discussed here having received differing therapeutic regimes, pointing out necessity for standardised palliative rather than radical therapy. CONCLUSION: Management with penile metastases from carcinoma should emphasise improving quality life therapy
