The hydrodynamic performance of one full-scale T0 (mesh size 90 mm) and three T90 90, 100, 110 codends was investigated compared using flume tank testing, with without a small-mesh cover. We evaluated how flow velocity, mesh circularity, drag changed in each codend at five different towing speeds (0.5–0.9 m/s). results demonstrated that velocity decreased along the length codend, this effect pronounced codend. Increasing from to mm did not significantly affect velocity. A novel parameter,...
The size selectivity of four codends were compared in the Gulf St. Lawrence, Canada, redfish fishery (Sebastes mentella), including regulated diamond mesh codend with a opening 90 mm (T0) and three experimental different openings (90, 100, 110 mm) which netting is turned 90° to direction tow (T90). Results for showed that there was little selection, catching greater than 97% over all length classes observed. Considering fished population, smallest T90 would catch 30% fewer under minimum...
The size selectivity and usability of three codends were quantified compared for the first time in inshore Northern shrimp (Pandalus borealis) trawl fishery Iceland using covered codend method: a conventional diamond-mesh (T0), square-mesh (T45), 90° turned mesh (T90) constructed four panels with shortened lastridge ropes. Fishers, wanting to increase average-individual captured shrimp, had requested T90 be consideration fishery. Results showed that, on average, T45 better than T0 terms...
To reduce the retention of undersized fish in redfish (Sebastes spp.) trawl fishery Gulf St. Lawrence, Canada, we developed a full-scale shaking codend. The codend uses mechanical stimulating device, an elliptical-shaped piece polyvinyl chloride canvas, attached to posterior T90 that generates lifting force with respect drag, causing 'shaking motion'. A could stimulate movement and increase contact probability, both which escape small out codend, especially when combined maintains mesh...
The hydrodynamic properties of ropes can significantly affect the underwater performance midwater trawls, including their geometry, drag, fuel consumption, and rate gear setting hauling activities. In this study, we investigate helix compared to conventional polyethylene (PE) nylon (PA) ropes. Flume tank tests were conducted using 17 different braided twisted varying diameter (6 mm, 8 9 14 mm). Samples each rope type subjected a series water velocities (0.5 m/s, 0.7 0.9 m/s) angles attack...
A multi-mesh trammel net has been developed and used for sampling freshwater fishes. However, little is known about the catch efficiency of net. This research investigated a (nominal mesh size; 10.0, 30.0, 50.0, 70.0 mm) fish in Yangtze River China. Catch composition factors affecting per unit effort based on number (CPUEN), weight (CPUEW), species (CPUES) were analyzed. The results showed that was capable capturing wide range sizes (total length, 5.5 to 121.0 cm) (n = 50). Increasing soak...
Traps with various designs have been developed for improving catch efficiency. Traditionally, traps two or three entrances used in recreational crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) fisheries China. More recently, more than fisheries; however, it is unclear whether increasing the number of on a trap increases capture In this research, we evaluated and compared efficiency varying numbers (2–7). We assessed per unit effort (CPUE) through 10 fishing trials. Our results suggested that CPUE did not...
