The first wave of COVID-19 in South Africa peaked July, 2020, and a larger second January, 2021, which the SARS-CoV-2 501Y.V2 (Beta) lineage predominated. We aimed to compare in-hospital mortality other patient characteristics between waves. In this prospective cohort study, we analysed data from DATCOV national active surveillance system for admissions hospital March 5, 27, 2021. contained all hospitals that have admitted with COVID-19. used incidence risk admission determined cutoff dates...
Abstract These highly sensitive assays are based on the interaction between thyroid autoantibodies and 125I-labeled autoantigens. Serum samples incubated with labeled peroxidase (TPO) or thyroglobulin (Tg) to allow formation of antibody-labeled antigen complexes. The complexes then precipitated by addition solid-phase Protein A. In presence high concentrations TPO antibody Tg antibody, more than 50% respective was precipitated, whereas only 1-2% in absence autoantibody. Interassay CVs were...
Minimal standards for novel species of the class Mollicutes (trivial term, mollicutes), last published in 1995, require revision. The International Committee on Systematics Prokaryotes Subcommittee Taxonomy proposes herein revised that reflect recent advances molecular systematics and concept prokaryotes. mandatory requirements are: (i) deposition type strain into two recognized culture collections, preferably located different countries; (ii) 16S rRNA gene sequence a public database,...
Mature laying chickens were inoculated intratracheally with a field strain of infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT) virus. Tracheal swabs collected regularly from all birds for virus culture. At various times post-inoculation, pairs killed and tissues removed detection products using conventional tissue homogenization culture, organ indirect immunofluorescence (IF) also the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The latter was used to detect DNA sequence ILT thymidine kinase gene. Following...
A new procedure for measuring patient serum thyrotropin receptor (TSHR) autoantibodies is described in which the inhibit binding of a human monoclonal thyroid stimulating antibody M22 (labeled with biotin) to TSHR-coated enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) plate wells. In assay, M22-biotin detected by addition streptavidin peroxidase. The based was more sensitive than similar ELISA on inhibition TSH-biotin TSHR coated wells 1 U/L NIBSC 90/672 giving approximately 35% M22-based system...
Methods are described for the rapid detection of beta-D-glucosidase and phosphatase in mycoplasma cultures using fluorogenic 4-methylumbelliferone substrates. These methods were applied to a selection compared with conventionally used tests these enzymes. Results similar by both methods, but could be read after 1 h, whereas conventional took several days.
A mycoplasma designated strain 4229T(T = type strain) was isolated in 1984 from the turbinate of a duck France, and similar strains were geese France partridge England. All these originally identified as Mycoplasma gallisepticum by immunofluorescence growth inhibition tests, but subsequent serological molecular studies indicated only partial relationship to this species DNA-DNA hybridization revealed approximately 40 46% genetic homology with M. PG31T. In study morphological, cultural,...
Summary Groups of 1‐day‐old turkey poults from a parent flock free antibodies to rhinotracheitis virus (TRTV) and the pathogenic mycoplasmas, were infected by eyedrop with virulent TRTV, Mycoplasma gallisepticum (Mg) or both agents together. Dual infection resulted in increased morbidity compared those groups given single infections. The presence Mg dual had no apparent effect on pathogenesis virus, but caused be more invasive. transient depression TRTV ELISA antibody titres at 29 days...
SUMMARY Serum proteins from Mycoplasma gallisepticum culture medium could be detected on the organisms as a result of incubation at low pH. Only certain serum proteins, including IgG and IgM, were found, adsorption appears to depress haemagglutinating activity organisms. There was no obvious effect slide agglutination (SA) sensitivity but an incidental finding that brief acid treatment enhanced SA antigen prepared young culture.
Following preliminary experiments to determine suitable methods for studying mycoplasma survival, suspensions of Mycoplasma gallisepticum (four strains), synoviae (two strains) or iowae were seeded onto replicate samples cotton, rubber, straw, shavings, timber, food, feathers and human hair. The organisms also skin, ear nasal mucosa. All cultured viability after 4, 8, 12 24 h, then daily up 6 days. identity recovered mycoplasmas was confirmed by indirect immunofluorescence. three species...
In 1983, Mycoplasma sp. strain 1220 was isolated in Hungary from the phallus lymph of a gander with inflammation. Between 1983 and 2017, also identified respiratory tract, liver, ovary, testis, peritoneum cloaca diseased geese several countries. Seventeen studied strains produced acid glucose fructose but did not hydrolyse arginine or urea, all grew under aerobic, microaerophilic anaerobic conditions at 35 to 37 ˚C either SP4 pleuropneumonia-like organism medium supplemented serum. Colonies...
In this paper the Subcommittee on Taxonomy of Mollicutes proposes minimum standards for descriptions new cultivable species class (trivial term, mollicutes) to replace proposals published in 1972 and 1979. The major characteristics these organisms are lack a cell wall, tendency form fried-egg-type colonies solid media, passage cells through 450- 220-nm-pore-size membrane filters, presence small A-T-rich genomes, failure wall-less strains revert walled bacteria under appropriate conditions....
In a field survey of ovine infectious keratoconjunctivitis, the microbiological flora 240 clinically unaffected eyes from sheep in 10 flocks was compared with an equivalent number affected 12 natural outbreaks disease. Totals 16 and 17 genera bacteria were recovered eyes, respectively. Staphylococcus, bacillus branhamella isolated significantly more often than other bacteria, both (P less 0.05). Branhamella ovis Escherichia coli occurred frequently Staphylococcus aureus severely mildly eyes....
Mycoplasma gallisepticum antigens were prepared from organisms cultured in broth medium with glucose. The influence of period growth, pH the and duration incubation at low (5.0) on sensitivity these was determined certain tests. most sensitive antigen for serum plate test harvested after no more than 8 hr. 5.0. Sensitivity plate, haemagglutination gel diffusion tests impaired if incubated 5.0 long periods. Antigens buffered found to be least as those unbuffered precipitation tests, but...
