SARS-CoV-2 has spread throughout the world since 2019, changing in its genome and leading to appearance of new variants. This gave it different evolutionary advantages, such as greater infectivity and/or a ability avoid immune response, which could lead an increased severity COVID-19 cases. There is no consistent information about viral load that occurs infection with variants, hence, this study we quantify more than 16,800 samples taken from Mexican population confirmed diagnosis analyze...

Occult HCV infection (OCI) is defined by the presence of RNA in hepatocytes and/or peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) without detectable or anti-HCV antibodies plasma. OCI underrecognized and may contribute to transmission. This study estimated prevalence associated risk factors adults from Mexico City. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional was conducted, analyzing 507 general population volunteers. Demographic data potential were collected via questionnaire. Anti-HCV detection...

Purpose: The Omicron subvariant BA.1 of SARS-CoV-2 was first detected in November 2021 and quickly spread worldwide, displacing the Delta variant. In this work, a characterization variant Mexico is presented. Methods: time to fixation BA.1, diversity sublineages, population density, level virus circulation during inter-wave interval were determined analyze differences spread. Results: began spreading week December became dominant next three weeks, causing fourth COVID-19 epidemiological...

Background The circulatory system is the main mechanism for transmission of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV). A new class HCV infections, Occult infection (OCI), defined as presence HCV-RNA in hepatocytes with absence serum/plasma utilizing current laboratory assays. Different groups have reported prevalence OCI; however, its associated risk factors not been established. In Mexico, there are no reports about OCI, so objective our study was to determine OCI total blood donors Mexico City, well...

This study was to determine and compare the prevalences of polypharmacy comorbidities in patients aged 50 years or older with those younger than a Mexican population. One hundred twenty-five were enrolled, 60 (48%) older. The median CD4+ cell counts 509 cells/μL (interquartile range [IQR]: 324–730) for 384 (IQR: 262–562) (P = 0.021) patients. Viral suppression significantly higher group: 80% vs. 63% 0.037). number group, 2 2–3) 1 0–1) ≤ 0.001). After adjustment logistic regression model...

In the last two decades transmission of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in HIV positive men who have sex with (MSM) has been reported globally. Chemsex and specific sexual practices identified as risk factors. Our study aimed to identify factors for HCV MSM living attending Mexico. We conducted a case-control from April December 2019 at Hospital de Infectología "La Raza" National Medical Center, Mexico City. A case was defined an HIV-infected HCV-antibody test. For each case, 3 controls were...

The HCV 5'UTR, Core/E1, and NS5B regions of samples from fifty patients infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) were analyzed. Seventeen identified genotype (GT) 1b, eleven GT‐1a, nine GT‐2b four GT‐3a. Two rare subtypes detected: GT‐2j in two GT‐2r one patient. Three had mixed infections: GT‐2k + 2j GT‐1b 2b. This work identifies GTs, 2j, 2k, 2r for first time Mexico.

Background With the arrival of chikungunya (CHIKV) and zika (ZIKV) viruses in Mexico, there was a decrease diagnosed dengue virus (DENV) cases. During first years cocirculation (2015–2017), algorithms established by epidemiological surveillance systems installed capacity limited us to one diagnostic test per sample, so an underestimation cases until September 2017, when multiplex algorithm implemented. Therefore, objective this study determine impact introduction CHIKV ZIKV on incidence DENV...

ABSTRACT Background SARS-CoV-2 is a novel coronavirus described for the first time in China December 2019. This virus can cause disease that ranges spectrum from asymptomatic to severe respiratory with multiorgan failure, and most cases are associated some comorbidities patient age. However, there patients who do not have those risk factors still develop serious disease. Methods In this study, we identified presence of other viruses positive COVID-19 Mexico determine if any coinfections were...
