A computer conversational system can potentially help a foreignlanguage student improve his/her fluency through practice dialogues. One of its potential roles could be to correct ungrammatical sentences. This paper 1 describes our research on sentencelevel, generation-based approach grammar correction: first, word lattice candidate corrections is generated from an illformed input. traditional n-gram language model used produce small set N-best candidates, which are then reranked by parsing...

Fill-in-the-blank questions, or cloze items, are commonly used in language learning applications. The benefits of personalized tailored to the user’s interest and proficiency, have motivated research on automatic generation items. This paper is concerned with generating items for prepositions, whose usage often poses problems non-native speakers English. quality a item depends choice distractors. We propose two methods, based collocations English corpora, generate distractors prepositions....

This paper reports the first study on automatic generation of distractors for fill-in-the-blank items learning Chinese vocabulary. We investigate quality generated by a number criteria, including part-of-speech, difficulty level, spelling, word co-occurrence and semantic similarity. Evaluations show that similarity measure, based word2vec model, yields are significantly more plausible than those baseline methods.
