The paper presents the results of an in situ investigation evolution deformation fields during compression cylindrical and dumbbell-like steel rods at meso- macroscale levels using digital image correlation method. The deformation behavior under compression of long prismatic steel rods is investigated. Three stages on the curve are identified.
