In recent decades there has been a significant increase in the presence of plastics environment, particularly marine due to its great applicability all fields life. The effects chronic ingestion contaminated microplastics are still unknown, but several studies suggest that is potential gateway trophic network, especially when these support other pollutants harmful human life and act as vehicle entry into organisms, making them more bioavailable. For this reason, present work aims evaluate...
The involvement of trait-based approaches is crucial for understanding spatial patterns, energy flow and matter transfer in running water systems, which requires consistent knowledge the functional structures aquatic communities, with advantage combining physical properties behavioral mechanisms food acquisition rather than taxonomic group. present study indicated how feeding groups may be used as a proxy classical evaluation, well potential interest incorporating them indicators...
This study aimed to determine the impact of various pressures on functional composition OCH (Odonata, Coleoptera, and Heteroptera) in streams within northwest Rif region Morocco. We examined how traits respond human-induced selected stream sites Morocco’s northwestern region. specimens were collected from 36 using a Surber sampler with dimension 20 × cm mesh size 500 µm over course two years, 2021 2023. measured physico-chemical hydraulic parameters such as temperature, pH, DO, NO-3....
Community assembly is determined by a combination of historical events and contemporary processes that are difficult to disentangle, but eco-evolutionary mechanisms may be uncovered the joint analysis species genetic diversity across multiple sites. Mountain streams Europe harbour highly diverse macroinvertebrate communities whose composition turnover (replacement taxa) among sites regions remain poorly known. We studied whole-community biodiversity within six mountain along latitudinal...
Recent research in various Moroccan areas allowed an update and a revision of the Ephemeroptera checklist. In this case, 54 species are now listed, belonging to 10 families 26 genera. The distribution all studied is discussed, as well their biogeographical affinities. Mayflies characterized by clear dominance Mediterranean elements with strong rate endemism (33.4%).
A population of red swamp crayfish Procambarus clarkii, (Girard, 1852) was studied in four wetland classified Ramsar sites Morocco which are Merja Fouwarat, Zerga, and Rmel plateau Bas Loukous. The aim this study to collect the first information on size weight clarkii for reasons its invasion success wetlands site Morocco. Also, comparing populations can provide valuable evolution species area, degree adaptation survival total 10,007 specimens were collected from January 2016 December 2018,...
We present a comprehensive overview of the Habrophlebia Eaton, 1881 species inhabiting Morocco. Based on nymphal material, two new from Rif Mountain range in northern Morocco are described as abietis sp. nov. and linae The descriptions vaillantorum Thomas, 1986 dakkii El Alami, Vuataz & Sartori, 2023 emended. Analysis mtDNA COI affinities key morphological characters within investigated populations suggest an important proportion hybrid domain, presenting mix H. dakkii, linae. This...
ABSTRACT Aim To examine how the employment of both community‐ and population‐level approaches can provide a wider view importance contemporary historical factors on current species distribution. We posit that community ecology should more information about factors, whereas population genetics better factors. Location Rivers western Mediterranean Basin, including four subregions differing in geological history: Iberian Plate, Transitional, Betic Rif. Methods For community‐level approach,...
The aim of this study is to investigate the longitudinal zonation macroinvertebrates assemblages in Za River basin, main tributary Moulouya (Morocco). This work carried out three campaigns between March and August 2014 on 12 stations selected. allowed identification 137 species classified 109 genera 65 families. In addition physicochemical parameters measured times each station, a description aquatic environment was made characterize surveyed; particular with regard altitude, slope, Emberger...
In 2014–2019, we carried out an examination of Trichoptera the Moulouya River basin in Oriental, Fèz-Meknès and Drâa-Tafilalet regions Morocco. Caddisflies territories High Plateau, oriental Sahara eastern parts Rif, Middle Atlas have been studied for first time. We collected identified 41 species. Rhyacophila sp. cf. intermedia/rougemonti McLachlan, 1868/McLachlan, 1880 (Rhyacophilidae); Hydropsyche exocellata Duföur, 1841 (Hydropsychidae) Mesophylax aspersus hoggarensis Malicky, 1998...
Based on recently collected larvae from Algeria and Morocco, the species delimitation within genus Centroptilum Eaton, 1869 in that region is validated. Two new are described illustrated, one north-eastern Algeria, North using an integrated approach with morphological molecular evidence. A table summarising differences between luteolum (Müller, 1776) Central Europe provided. Further, evidence for additional undescribed of other regions West Palearctic provided discussed.
Among mayflies, Baetidae are often considered as easy to recognise at the family level, but difficult identify lower level. In several faunistic or ecological studies, identification remains level; generally widespread and ubiquitous, therefore poorly informative for studies bioassessments. Here, a straightforward key is offered larvae of ten genera reported from Maghreb based on easily observable understandable characters. The diversity, ecology, distribution each taxonomic unit (genera...
We describe a new species of the genus Calamoceras which currently has only two species: illiesi Malicky & Kumanski 1974 and marsupus Brauer 1865. also discuss its ecology by analyzing some biophysical parameters. The larva adult this species, riffensis sp. nov. have been found specialists from Rif region in northwestern Morocco since 1998. All specimens collected differ known conspicuous morphological differences.
We describe a new species of Prosopistoma collected in the High Atlas Mountains Morocco. Prosopistomamaroccanumsp. nov. appears to be morphologically more similar European highly endangered P.pennigerum (Müller, 1785) than other Maghrebian species, P.alaini Bojkova & Soldán, 2015. A gene tree including few available barcode sequences Palearctic specimens is provided. Possible affinities with West African are also discussed.
An overview of Moroccan stoneflies is presented as an annotated summary published and unpublished records from 115 localities. These have resulted in updated species list reflecting taxonomic corrections noteworthy range extensions for several species. A total 28 species, belonging to 15 genera seven families, now known Morocco with the greatest diversity found Rif Mountains (23 species) lowest eastern three The majority are typical Mediterranean (86%). endemics comprise nine (32% fauna)....
The Mediterranean is one of the most biodiverse areas Paleartic region. Here, basing on large data sets single copy orthologs obtained from transcriptomic data, we investigated evolutionary history genus Dugesia in Western area. results corroborated that complex paleogeological region was an important driver diversification for genus, speciating as microplates and islands were forming. These processes led to differentiation three main biogeographic clades: Iberia-Apennines-Alps,...
The Draa river basin is located south of the High Atlas Mountain rangee in Morocco. Ephemeroptera (mayflies) fauna its three sub-basins: High, Middle, and Lower are poorly known. This study contributes to knowledge distribution relation environmental parameters this area. larvae Ephemeropteran species were collected during six field campaigns 17 sites using a Surber sampler. A total thirteen belonging ten genera five families identified. among which seven taxa recorded for first time...
A new species of Alainites is described from northern Morocco albai sp. nov. It can be separated the other west Palearctic by gill number, spination distal margin tergites, leg setation, and paraproct shape spination. This widespread in study area but never abundant. prefers small to medium streams with slow flow, does not seem very sensitive pollution water logging activities.
Baetisrifensissp. nov. is the first representative of Baetisfuscatus group to be described from Maghreb. It was collected streams in Rif region northern Morocco. All species B.fuscatus are morphologically very similar, with slight differences colour. Thus, addition morphological description, delimitation based on genetic evidence carried out. The new compared other members Palaearctic region.
