Multidirectional cyclic shearing induced by earthquakes involves variations not only in amplitude but also direction. To investigate the undrained shear responses of sand under this complex stress state, several series simple tests were conducted on reconstituted Toyoura specimens prepared water sedimentation and dry deposition methods, at relative density about 34% initial vertical 100 kPa, with variable-direction dynamic system. By applying stresses two mutually perpendicular horizontal...

In this paper, a comparative study was conducted on the undrained monotonic and cyclic behavior of calcareous sand siliceous using series simple shear tests. To more effectively draw comparison, same grain-size distribution employed for to any underlying liquefaction divergence arising from their respective distinctive particle characteristics. The results suggested that exhibited higher peak strengths, stability resistance than sand. Furthermore, strength tests could serve as vital index assess

In the coastal area, nearshore and offshore structures have been or will be built in marine soft clay deposits that experienced long-term cyclic loads. Therefore, mechanical behavior of after loading needs to investigated. this research, a series monotonic triaxial tests were carried out investigate postcyclic clay. The water pore pressure, shear strength secant stiffness are discussed by comparing results with standard test (without loading). It is very interesting specimen similar...

In offshore engineering, marine clays, which are widespread in the southeastern coastal areas of China, may be subjected to two-way cyclic stresses. To experimentally investigate effects stress with low-stress amplitude on behavior soft clay, a series triaxial tests is performed intact clay from Zhoushan covering various values ratio (CSR) and confining pressure (p′0). Several useful conclusions inferred: First, double-amplitude axial strain (εDA), dynamic modulus (E), energy dissipation (W)...

In offshore engineering, soft clay foundations supporting infrastructure are subjected to significant multidirectional cyclic shear stresses due earthquake or storm loads. To explore the undrained behavior of foundation clays under critical loading conditions, a series tests were conducted using variable-direction dynamic system. By controlling amplitude ratio (η) two mutually perpendicular in horizontal plane, both unidirectional and stress paths achieved. The strength, stiffness, pore...

The undrained cyclic behaviour of clay under three-dimensional (3D) stress states is vital in marine geotechnical applications, especially relation to deformation and stability issues pile foundations oceanic environmental loadings. However, investigations the 3D are rarely undertaken laboratory. This paper presents an experimental study on responses performed with a true triaxial apparatus, where horizontal one-way vertical two-way stresses applied specimen simultaneously. Emphasis placed...
