Abstract An unconventional cascade control system, for the regulation of air supply in activated sludge wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), was tested. The dissolved oxygen (DO) set point aeration tank dynamically calculated based on effluent ammonia concentration, following a fuzzy logic approach. First, simulations were conducted, according to BSM2 protocol, general comparison with more conventional strategies. It turned out that quality could be improved by 7–8%, EQI parameter. Moreover,...
In this article, the effectiveness of an advanced sludge treatment technology (Wet Oxidation, WO) is presented by analyzing experimental studies at lab scale and data collected during years industrial-scale activities. The showed good performances WO on COD VSS removal efficiencies—about 65–70% 95–98%, respectively—and effect operating parameters (i.e., temperature reaction time) process efficiencies was highlighted. energy balance systems indicated that about 90% entering system may be...
In the last years, sewage sludge management turned out to be a topic of great interest due increasing production and high cost treatment disposal. this context, several methods are being studied for minimization: among them, wet oxidation (WO) was proposed as an effective hydrothermal based technology. The aim work, carried within European project "ROUTES," assessment influence composition on process performance: purpose, seven different types were submitted WO tests at lab scale. Moreover,...
