Macrolide antibiotics possess a variety of actions other than antimicrobial activities. To determine the effects long-term administration clarithromycin (CAM) on amount and physical properties sputum in patients with clinical conditions associated excessive airway secretions, we conducted present study parallel, double-blind, placebo-controlled fashion. Patients were divided into two groups: first group (n = 16) received CAM (100 mg, twice day) for 8 weeks, second 15) placebo. In evaluating...

We studied the effect of macrolide antibiotic erythromycin on bioelectrical properties canine cultured tracheal epithelium under short-circuit conditions in vitro. Addition to submucosal but not mucosal side dose-dependently decreased current (Isc), maximal decrease from baseline value and concentration required produce a half-maximal (IC50) being 5.6 +/- 1.0 microA.cm-2 (mean SE, p less than 0.001) 18 microM, respectively. In contrast, other antibiotics including ampicillin, cephazolin...

Erythromycin is reported to have an anti-inflammatory action, which may account for its clinical effectiveness in the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases such as diffuse panbronchiolitis. To evaluate action erythromycin, we examined survival isolated neutrophils with and without erythromycin. shortened neutrophil a dose-dependent fashion, maximum effect at 10 micrograms/ml [corrected] above. Survival 24 h was 63.4% medium micrograms erythromycin per ml compared 82.7% control (P <...

BACKGROUND--Anticholinergic bronchodilator drugs improve lung function in chronic bronchitis but less is known of their effects on the volume and physical properties sputum conditions associated with excessive airway secretions. This study examines regular use oxitropium bromide such patients. METHODS--The was conducted a parallel, double blind, placebo controlled fashion. Patients were divided into two groups: first group (n = 17) received from metered dose inhaler (two puffs three times...

To determine possible contribution of nitric oxide (NO) to the stimulatory action beta-adrenoceptor agonist on ciliary motility, we measured beat frequency (CBF) rabbit cultured tracheal epithelial cells by photoelectric method and NO release specific amperometric sensors for this molecule in vitro. Salbutamol increased CBF, an effect that was potentiated superoxide dismutase. Pretreatment with NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) attenuated salbutamol-induced increase causing a...

Prostaglandin (PG) D 2 is one cyclo‐oxygenase product of arachidonic acid metabolites that may play a role in the pathogenesis asthma. To determine effect PGD on ion transport by airway epithelium and its mechanism action, we measured bioelectric properties canine cultured tracheal under short‐circuit conditions vitro . (10 ‐7 M) increased current (I sc ) from 5.5 ± 1.2 to 14.1 2.9 μA cm ‐2 (means SE, P < 0.01) when added mucosal solution, 22.2 3.8 (P 0.001) submucosal an was accompanied...

The removal of bound metal ions from G-actin uncovered two thiols, Cys-10 and Cys-257. uncovering these thiols requires a free calcium concentration lower than 10 nM. Therefore, participation one or both in Ca2+ binding is suggested. Actin labeled with N-(5-fluoresceinyl)maleimide the absence moves as doublet NaDodSO4/PAGE. It suggested that conformers are induced by labeling.

To determine whether the macrolide antibiotic erythromycin prevents microvascular leakage produced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS), we studied tracheae and lungs of pathogen-free rats. Tracheal vascular permeability neutrophil recruitment were assessed percent area occupied Monastral blue-labeled blood vessels myeloperoxidase-containing granulocytes, respectively, in tracheal whole mounts. Pulmonary was evaluated lung wet-to-dry (W/D) weight ratio. Inhalation Escherichia coli LPS (5 mg/kg)...

Inhaled interleukin 8 caused an increase in goblet cell secretion guinea pig tracheas, which was accompanied by mucosal infiltration of neutrophils. These responses were inhibited pretreatment with roxithromycin or erythromycin a dose-dependent fashion. Macrolides may thus be value protecting against neutrophil-associated airway hypersecretion.

We studied the effects of macrolides on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced airway inflammation in rat tracheal mucosa. Erythromycin and roxithromycin dose dependently inhibited microvascular leakage neutrophil recruitment induced by LPS. This inhibitory action vascular permeability was abolished depletion.

Abstract Purpose To quantify the bias of shear wave speed (SWS) measurements in a viscoelastic phantom across six different ultrasound (US) systems and to compare SWS with those from transient elastography (TE) magnetic resonance (MRE). Methods A stiffness representing fibrotic liver or healthy thyroid was measured nine (linear probe) 10 (convex modes US-based (SWE) using linear convex probes. three regions interest were repeated thrice at two focal depths, coupling probe jig. An MRE system...
