Speleothem fluid inclusion isotope analysis provides the oxygen and hydrogen compositions of parent water from which carbonate was precipitated. In contrast to isotopes, it is not affected by kinetic effects or cave air temperature. However, in-cave evaporation has been identified as a potential control on drip isotopes if rates are slow relative humidity in low.Rainfall generally plot close global meteoric line (GMWL) d2Hversus d18O that can be described following regression equation: d2H =...

Currently there is a scarcity of paleo-records related to the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), particularly in East-Central Europe (ECE). Here we report δ15N analysis guano from cave NW Romania with intent reconstructing past variation ECE hydroclimate and examine NAO impacts on winter precipitation. We argue that values indicate nitrogen cycle hydrologically controlled likely reflect precipitation mineralization prior growing season. Drier conditions indicated by at AD 1848-1852 1880-1930...

ABSTRACT A 285‐cm core of bat guano was recovered from Măgurici Cave in north‐west Romania and analyzed for δ 13 C, 15 N pollen. Guano deposition occurred AD 881 until 1240 1651 to 2013, allowing the interpretation summer variations precipitation temperature during Medieval Warm Period (MWP) Little Ice Age (LIA). 2‰ increase 1.5‰ decrease N, presence Ulmus , Quercus Carpinus betulus indicate a warm dry MWP region. The lack beginning LIA suggests possible climate‐induced change prey...

Abstract Stable isotope ratios of cave bat guano reflect environmental influences at the soil and plant level within foraging range bats. Carbon, nitrogen hydrogen isotopes have utility in reconstructing precipitation temperature as well tracing influence large-scale atmospheric circulation climate variability. Guano-derived stable time series been demonstrated to effectively provide high-resolution records palaeoenvironmental variation from late Pleistocene present. Owing their on these...

Cryogenic cave carbonates have been described from several formerly or presently glaciated karst caves. In most of these occurrences, they precipitated as loose grains aggregates with various morphologies and sizes. Here, we report on a new speleothem type ( cryogenic ridges ) identified in Sohodoalele Mici Cave (SW Romania) within large chamber near the entrance shaft. This study was motivated by presence network calcite over stalactites’ surface observation that during winter, speleothems...

A 2.8 m-long core of cave bat guano was obtained from an excavated pit within Bracken Cave (Texas, USA) and analyzed for δ13C δ15N. Radiocarbon dating the indicated that deposition occurred between 1974–1989 1998–2016 CE. The hiatus 1989 1998 CE interpreted to be related documented mining activities during this interval. average Suess-corrected values entire series (–19.7 ± 1.0 ‰) suggest insects ingested by bats had a diet incorporating both C3 C4 plants. proportion each appeared dependent...

Strength and shifts of the Western Pacific Subtropical High (WPSH) have a strong influence on East Asian Summer Monsoon (EASM) precipitation. How WPSH changed in past its forcing mechanisms different timescales are yet to be resolved. The role modulating climate can traced from oxygen isotopic composition modern fossil precipitation (d18Oprec) if climatic significance d18Oprec is adequately constrained. Here, we present Holocene hydroclimatic analysis for North (WNP) proximal region by...

Abstract Due to multiple factors influencing orbital-scale variability of the East Asian Summer monsoon (EASM), interpretation speleothem-based climate reconstructions from this region has remained challenging. Using a 130,000-year accelerated astronomically-forced simulation conducted with isotope-enabled Community Earth System Model, we determine drivers EASM in oxygen isotopes (δ 18 O). Indian summer (ISM) and associated moisture transport changes control strong precipitation-δ O western...
