As a part of monitoring program harmful microalgae in the coastal waters Buenos Aires Province, two strains chain-forming Gymnodinium species (Dinophyceae), LPCc043 and LPCc044, were isolated from samples collected Samborombón Bay. This study aims to provide morphological, phylogenetic toxicological characterization strains. Among marine species, only G. catenatum impudicum are known form algal blooms (HAB). Morphological analysis with light electron scanning microscopy (LM, SEM) revealed...

Amphora coffeaeformis (Agardh) Kützing has been reported in Argentina from marine and inland environments. Since this species frequently misidentified, we carried out a review of materials corresponding to the records A. compared them with photographs type material. All analyzed are similar as regards valve outline dimensions; however, they differ morphology, mainly striae areolae. The presence was corroborated Buenos Aires (Arroyo Tapalqué), Jujuy, San Luis La Pampa. Mar del Plata...

A new sigmoid diatom species Haslea sigma sp. nov. was found alive in sediment composed of clay and silt salt marshes Southern Brazil. The is morphologically distinctive by the following combination characters: 1) valve, 2) thickened virgae forming a pseudostauros, 3) central raphe fissures almost straight 4) terminal slightly curved. It analyzed light electron microscopy compared with nipkowii other spindle-shaped taxa possessing pseudostauros.
