The fate of 257 consecutive patients (100 women) aged 36-85 years (mean 65) first seen with intermittent claudication in 1977 was analysed after a mean 6.5 (SD 0.5) years. When none the complained rest pain or had ulcers gangrenous lesions on feet. At follow up 113 (44%) died. Causes death were no different from those general population. Mortality twice that population matched for age and sex. among men women. In under 60 mortality four times expected. rate clinical progression...

Tissue/blood partition coefficients (λ) for xenon were calculated subcutaneous adipose tissue from the abdominal wall and thigh, perirenal after chemical analysis of tissues lipid, water protein content. The Δ in was found to correlate linearly relative body weight (RBW) per cent with regression equation Δ=0.045·RBW+0.99. on abdomen correlated local skinfold thickness (SFT) Δ=0.22 SFT+2.99. Similarly thigh SFT =0.20·SFT+4.63. It is concluded that previously accepted value 10 generally too...

Abstract. A double‐blind, randomized multicentre study was undertaken to evaluate the possible effect of chelation treatment with ethylenediamine‐tetraacetic acid (EDTA) in patients severe intermittent claudication. total 153 received 20 intravenous infusions either 3 g Na 2 EDTA or placebo during a period 5–9 weeks. Vitamin, mineral and trace element supplements were administered orally. The changes observed pain‐free maximal walking distances, measured on treadmill, similar two groups....

ABSTRACT. The effects of acebutolol (with intrinsic sympathomimetic activity (ISA)) and metoprolol (without ISA) on arm blood pressure, ankle systolic claudication distances (CD) maximal walking (MWD) were compared in patients with essential hypertension intermittent claudication. Fourteen participated a long‐term, open, randomized cross‐over study. After randomization the received either acebutolol, 200 mg b.i.d., or metoprolol, 100 b.i.d. eight weeks drugs shifted after another they...
