Second- and third-row transition metal complexes are widely employed in photocatalysis, whereas earth-abundant first-row metals have found only limited use because of the prohibitively fast decay their excited states. We report an unforeseen reactivity mode for productive photocatalysis that uses cobalt polypyridyl as photocatalysts by exploiting Marcus inverted region behavior couples increases excited-state energies with increased lifetimes. These (III) can engage bimolecular virtue strong...
A study of a series six-coordinate Co(III) complexes has been carried out to quantify spectroscopic parameters for range ligands that are commonly employed realize strong charge-transfer absorptions in low-spin, d6 systems. Identification any three ligand-field transitions allows the determination splitting parameter (10 Dq) as well Racah B and C given compound. The data revealed relatively small spread magnitude 10 Dq, ranging from ca. 23 000 cm-1 case [Co(pyrro-bpy)3]3+ (where pyrro-bpy is...
We have employed a range of ultrafast X-ray spectroscopies in an effort to characterize the lowest energy excited state [Fe(dcpp)2]2+ (where dcpp is 2,6-(dicarboxypyridyl)pyridine). This compound exhibits unusually short excited-state lifetime for low-spin Fe(II) polypyridyl complex 270 ps room-temperature fluid solution, raising questions as whether ligand-field strength had pushed this system beyond 5T2/3T1 crossing point and stabilizing latter state. Kα Kβ emission been used unambiguously...
We describe new compounds of stoichiometry M(CH2NMe2BH3)3 (M = Ti, Cr, and Co), each which contains three chelating boranatodimethylaminomethyl (BDAM) ligands. In all compounds, the BDAM anion, is isoelectronic isostructural with neopentyl group, bound to metal center at one end by a metal-carbon σ bond other three-center M-H-B interaction. The crystal structures show that d1 titanium(III) compound trigonal prismatic (or eight-coordinate, if two longer-ranged M···H interactions BH3 groups...
