Postmodernism as a critique of the foundation beliefs various forms modernity, including socialism and especially Marxism, presents challenge to advocates critical perspective on social welfare. This paper argues that we should use postmodern ideas stimulate socialist approach which is more diverse, nonuniversalistic cross-cultural than envisioned by earlier Marxism.

The current debate about the knowledge claims of modernity has profound implications for theories and practices social welfare, though postmodern critiques its foundational beliefs should be approached cautiously.
