Interviews with scientists about the content and reward of collaborations, classification contributions co-authors cited in acknowledgements, identified six types research collaborations distinct patterns rewards; showed that half are invisible formal communication channels because they not rewarded; one third rewarded only by acknowledgements.
Shrinking university budgets make researchers more and dependent on external funds. As a response, they develop specific strategies for selecting funds adapting their research. In comparative interview-based study of experimental physicists working at Australian German universities, connections between funding conditions adaptation were analysed. Strategies differ scientists in the two countries because different conditions; top others. The affects content research, instance, its quality...
Abstract This review explores contributions by science policy studies and the sociology of to our understanding impact governance on research content. Contributions are subsumed under two perspectives, namely an “impact of”—perspective that searches for effects specific arrangements on”—perspective asks what factors contribute construction content includes among them. Experimental research has become a collective enterprise that closely intertwines creative and routine processes. So far, these basic properties of - the classic property creativity new being conducted collaboratively have been studied only separately. However, to understand ongoing changes, it is necessary develop an integrated perspective. The aim this article show how processes are in collaborative both within between groups, rewarded by scientific community. Based upon empirical study 57...
In this article, we address one of the recurrent problems career theory, namely integration individual agency and structural conditions action in explanations decisions, through them, trajectories their outcomes. We draw on Barley’s suggestion to include scripts as mediating between institutions actions. By theoretically specifying collectively shared interpretive schemes that describe successful careers, are able introduce them a specific factor contributes explanation decisions....
