The patterns of meiofaunal distribution in a submarine canyon and adjacent open-slope habitats at Campos Basin, southwest Atlantic, were investigated. A total eight stations was sampled, four inside the Canyon Almirante Câmara on open slope. These represented isobaths (400, 700, 1000, 1300 m) sampled during two distinct periods (2008, 2009). At each station, three replicates obtained sectioned into layers 0–2, 2–5 5–10 cm. Nematoda most abundant group both habitats, comprising more than 85%...

ABSTRACT In continental shelves of tropical areas, ecological studies on meiofauna are scarce and most were mainly based a single sampling event or limited spatial design. Along the Potiguar Basin shelf, carbonate sediments, produced by calcareous algae (rhodoliths) corals, dominate. The ecology rhodolith beds has been subject relatively few despite this ecosystem being under strong pressure due to its large economic potential, especially in poorly known because global climate change that...

Abstract In Brazil, meiofauna studies began in the middle of last century, but they adopted a purely taxonomical approach, describing species from various zoological groups. After this first step, benthic group was largely neglected until end 20th century when ecological began. We here provide brief review present knowledge found on Brazilian sandy beaches to information for ReBentos (Coastal Benthic Habitats Monitoring Network). Our methodology consisted bibliographic survey undertaken...

Daptonema oxycerca was originally described from the North Sea and, up to now, nothing is known of this species in tropical regions. The spatio-temporal distribution and population structure studied during one-year period (from May 1998 through April 1999) Coroa Grande, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. For sampling, two fixed, parallel transects were established perpendicularly shoreline, at each transect, four, equally spaced levels marked represent upper low intertidal zones. lowest temperatures...

The goal of this study was to demonstrate the feasibility culturing seahorse Hippocampus reidi in an organic integrated multi-trophic aquaculture farm that produces oyster Crassostrea brasiliana and shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei. Experiments were conducted evaluate effects stocking density food (natural zooplankton, Artemia nauplii, or both) for juvenile I, which are fish from 1 15 days after birth. Stocking effect studied on growth survival juveniles II 30 commercial size net cages. Survival...

Oncholaimus cobbi was described from the Brazilian coast. The area studied, Coroa Grande, is located in Sepetiba Bay, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
