Abstract The use of micro- and nanodevices as multifunctional systems for biomedical applications has experienced an exponential growth during the past decades. Although a large number studies have focused on design fabrication new nanosystems capable developing multiple functions, deeper understanding their interaction with cells is required. In present study, we evaluated effect different microparticle surfaces normal tumoral human breast epithelial cell lines. For this, AlexaFluor488 IgG...

Abstract Cell death triggered by photodynamic therapy can occur through different mechanisms: apoptosis, necrosis or autophagy. However, recent studies have demonstrated the existence of other mechanisms with characteristics both and apoptosis. These new cell pathways, collectively termed regulated necrosis, include a variety processes stimuli. In this study, we evaluated mechanism induced treatments two photosensitizers, meso -tetrakis (4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin sodium salt (Na-H 2 TCPP)...

Temocene, a porphycene analogue of temoporfin, has been synthesized. Compared to temocene is endowed with 2.5-fold larger absorption coefficients in the red part spectrum while keeping its excellent photophysical and singlet oxygen photosensitization ability. While photodynamic activity towards HeLa cells lower than that higher photostability, dark toxicity mitochondrial localisation make promising candidate for therapy applications.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a cancer treatment modality based on the administration of photosensitizer (PS), which accumulates preferentially in tumor cells. Subsequent irradiation neoplastic area triggers cascade photochemical reactions that leads to formation highly reactive oxygen species responsible for cell inactivation. treatments vitro are performed with PS, zinc-phthalocyanine (ZnPc). The PS near plasma membrane during uptake and internalization. Inactivation clearly occurs by...

Two novel porphyrin-core systems were prepared by Sonogashira cross-coupling of the terminal alkyne groups meso-tetra(4-ethynylphenyl)porphyrin-Zn(ii) (P-1) with halogenated Ru(ii)- or Ir(iii)-phenanthroline complexes. The resulting compounds (P-Ru and P-Ir) spectroscopically characterised their photophysical properties investigated (λem 625, 665 nm; τT 339.6 μs (P-Ru) λem 530, 612, 664 396.6 (P-Ir)). Nanosecond time-resolved transient absorption studies used to explore 3MLCT nature triplet...

Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is a systemic, autoimmune exocrinopathy in which destructive, inflammatory-cell infiltration can affect any gland. Although chronic atrophic gastritis the most common form of gastrointestinal involvement SS, pernicious anemia develops rare cases. We therefore report patient with these three associated diseases.

The development of micro- and nanosystems for their use in biomedicine is a continuously growing field. One the major goals such platforms to combine multiple functions single entity. However, achieving design an efficient safe or nanoplatform has shown be strongly influenced by its interaction with biological systems, where particle features cell types play critical role. In this work, feasibility using multi-material pSi-Cr-Au intracellular chips (MMICCs) multifunctional applications...

Abstract Therapeutic drug carriers can drive their cargo to target cells. However, an obstacle is usually the entrapment of inside endolysosomal compartment, which physically impedes its actuation by impossibility reaching molecular site action. To overcome this hurdle, photochemical internalization (PCI) has been proposed, but extent PCI-induced membrane disruption and capability allow release microparticles unknown. The aim present study was determine if PCI allows from compartment cytosol...

Pure Fe and FeMnSi thin films were sputtered on macroporous polypropylene (PP) membranes with the aim to obtain biocompatible, biodegradable and, eventually, magnetically-steerable platforms. Room-temperature ferromagnetic response was observed in both Fe- FeMnSi-coated membranes. Good cell viability cases by means of cytotoxicity studies, though showed higher biodegradability than Fe-coated ones. Various strategies functionalize porous platforms transferrin-Alexa Fluor 488 (Tf-AF488)...

The aim of this study was to describe findings bone scintiscans and their clinical significance for patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1); 33 HIV-1-infected (22 men 11 women) free osteoarticular symptoms were included in the study. Plain roentgenograms, mineral contents (measured by dual-photon absorptiometry), (determined 99mTc diphosphonate) obtained all subjects. roentgenograms showed no abnormalities, within normal range patients. Purpose: To determine if the specific targeting of microparticles improves their internalization by cells under fluidic conditions. Methods: Two isogenic breast epithelial cell lines, one overexpressing Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2) oncogene (D492HER2) and highly tumorigenic other expressing HER2 at much lower levels non-tumorigenic (D492), were cultured in presence polystyrene 1 µm diameter, biofunctionalized with either a anti-HER2 antibody or non-specific secondary...
