BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Low-birth weight, premature infants often have severe intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), which can result in posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH), sometimes requiring cerebrospinal fluid diversion. Initial temporizing management of PHH includes placement a ventriculosubgaleal shunt (VSGS) or ventricular access device (VAD). Studies found similar permanent conversion rates between VSGS and VAD but were limited by sample scope size. The rate to within 6 months...
Introduction: Endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) is effective in treating acute ischemic stroke, with research showing improved functional outcomes compared to medical treatment alone. Oral anticoagulants (OAC) are often prescribed for stroke prevention. In such a population, the safety and efficacy of EVT remain uncertain, emphasis on risk intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). Method: We searched Pubmed, Cochrane, Embase from 2015 August 2024, which OAC Non-OAC patients stroke. Safety included ICH 90...
<title>Abstract</title> Introduction: Endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) is an effective treatment for acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Oral anticoagulants are used prevention in pro-embolic patients, but their impact on EVT outcomes, particularly symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH), remains uncertain. This study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) direct oral (DOACs) outcomes. Method: We searched PubMed, Cochrane, Embase from 2015 August 2024 studies...
ABSTRACT Background and Purpose Carotid artery stenting is a well‐established method for treating carotid stenosis; however, there are conflicting data on prestenting versus post‐stenting balloon angioplasty. Our study aims to understand the risk safety of pre‐stent angioplasty (Pre‐SB) post‐stent (Post‐SB), or both techniques. Methods Multicenter retrospective balloons, stents, complications, modified Rankin score (mRS) before after procedure were collected. Statistical analysis was...
CAG repeat expansion is the genetic cause of nine incurable polyglutamine (polyQ) diseases with neurodegenerative features. Silencing RNA holds great therapeutic value. Here, we developed a repeat-based RNA-cleaving DNAzyme that catalyzes destruction expanded six polyQ high potency. preferentially cleaved allele in spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 (SCA1) cells. While cleavage was non-allele-specific for 3 (SCA3) cells, treatment leads to improved cell viability without affecting mitochondrial...
OBJECTIVE The authors sought to determine the medical schools with highest number and proportion of female graduates currently practicing neurosurgery identify school characteristics that increase representation in neurosurgery, goal addressing gender disparity. METHODS used Physician Compare National Downloadable File from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Physicians indicating as their primary specialty were extracted. Duplicates, physicians education listed "other," those...
Abusive head trauma (AHT) is the leading cause of death from physical child abuse in children younger than 5 years age United States. The mortality rate among patients with AHT 25%, and recurrence rises to 35% when there a lack intervention. Thus, identifying crucial yet especially challenging for infants toddlers as they are preverbal. Current guidelines do not sufficiently address specific needs population. This study aimed evaluate clinical factors associated such populations.
