A ground‐based GPS network has been established over West Africa in the framework of African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis (AMMA) tight cooperation between French and institutes. The experimental setup is described preliminary highlights are given for different applications using these data. Precipitable water vapor (PWV) estimates from used evaluating numerical weather prediction (NWP) models radiosonde humidity Systematic tendency errors model forecasts evidenced. Correlated biases...

The paper explores Time Dependent Optimization (Tdo) as a measure of adaptiveness in artificial systems. We first discuss this choice and review classical Tdo models to propose canonic benchmark. Then we underline the central role diversity adaptive dynamics for biological cybernetic systems illustrate by state art evolutionary (Etdo). A Simple Artificial Immune System (Sais) is then proposed experimentally compared Etdo. Encouraging results are explained strong analogies between Sais GAs...

Sleep fragmentation (an increase in the number of short EEG arousals) is considered a major determinant excessive daytime sleepiness but seldom quantified sleep studies, and reference values are scarce at best. We present data on movement arousal index (MAI) five groups subjects: normals, simple snorers, patients with apnea-hypopnea syndrome (SAHS), sleep-related oxygen desaturations due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or neuromusculoskeletal disorders. In normal subjects, MAI was...

Abstract. The Mediterranean hydrometeorological observatory Cévennes-Vivarais (OHM-CV) coordinates observations (radars, rain gauges, water level stations) on a regional scale in southeastern France. In the framework of OHM-CV, temporary GPS measurements have been carried out for 2 months autumn 2002, when heaviest rainfall are expected. These increase spatial density existing permanent network, by adding three more receivers between coast and range to monitor maritime source vapour flow...

A case is described of tracheobronchomegaly progressing to extensive tracheomalacia, complicated by episodic choking, recurrent pulmonary infections, and irreversible hypercapnic respiratory failure. Y-shaped tracheobronchial stent was placed endoscopically splint the trachea open, with excellent clinical physiological improvement. New designs may provide long term palliation in selected cases diffuse tracheal collapse or stenosis, offer an alternative surgical repair.

The aim of the present study was to assess whether nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) treatment, applied for only a few hours at beginning night, has any residual effect on sleep and breathing during ensuing unassisted in patients with obstructive apnoea syndrome (OSAS). In 27 newly-diagnosed OSAS, effective nCPAP first part night then withdrawn. Polysomnographic parameters after withdrawal were compared those corresponding diagnostic polysomnography performed days or weeks...

Usually the offspring-parent fitness correlations is used to visualize and analyze some characteristics of landscapes such as evolvability. In this paper, we introduce a more general representation correlation, cloud (FC). We use bottleneck metaphor emphasis levels in landscape that cause local search process slow down. For heuristic hill-climbing or simulated annealing, FC allows one neutrality landscapes. To confirm relevance show where bottlenecks are well-known NK also how information...

Abstract High spatial and temporal variability of mesoscale moisture fields is still a challenge for quantitative precipitation forecast within numerical weather prediction (NWP) models especially over ocean regions where observations are lacking. While remains accurate most observation period,...

This paper investigates the relevance of immune system metaphor to time-dependent optimization (TDO). First, we review previous results underlining over-average reactiveness and robustness featured by Sais (Simple Artificial Immune System) in comparison well-known evolutionist approaches. Then, evaluate its immunization capability (i.e. improving previously encountered optima) eventually propose Yasais (Yet Another Simple System).

Neutrality of some boolean parity fitness landscapes is investigated in this paper. Compared with well known contributions on the same issue, we define new measures that help characterizing neutral landscapes, use a sampling methodology, which captures features are disregarded by uniform random sampling, and introduce genetic operators to neighborhood tree structures. We compare landscape induced two different sets functional (SNand SXorNot). The characteristics networks seem justify...
