Oblique propagation of light through a planar layer cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) is solved by Ambartsumian's modified addition method. Two cases are considered, namely, the case when dielectric boundaries have minimum influence on transmission and CLC in vacuum. It shown that first total internal reflection can happen for fast eigen-mode at large incidence angles. New important features (transmission) spectra, photonic density states accumulated energy studied. The localisation...

Cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs) with induced defects are one of the most prominent materials to realize compact, low-threshold and tunable coherent light sources. In this context, investigation optical properties defect modes in such CLCs is great interest. particular, many studies have been devoted spectral control depending on their thickness, properties, distribution along CLC, etc. paper, we investigate lasing possibilities a dye-doped polymer layer embedded wedge-shaped CLC. The properties of chiral photonic crystals with a pitch gradient were investigated both experimentally and theoretically. liquid-crystalline cell was prepared by bringing two cholesteric liquid (CLCs) different pitches into contact. There are some essential features in the dynamics diffusion between CLCs. most important feature is fact that establishing final equilibrium (for temperatures below 17°C) takes long time—roughly 3 months or more—which, turn, allows us to investigate nonstandard...

Abstract This paper experimentally demonstrated that in the cholesteric liquid-crystalline films it is possible to induce defect, which can be controlled by external electric field. Three cases of induced defects were examined and main result experiment rotation polarization plane has maximum value when light first propagates through chiral photonic structure then falls anisotropic layer.
