A study of zooplankton and ichthyoplankton was carried out from samples collected along the Senegal-Guinea maritime area on board Norwegian research vessel 'Dr Fridtjof Nansen' in November 2011. Nineteen groups were identified with a dominance copepods representing 68.5%. The Copepods included 35 species, where Paracalanus parvus dominant (21.5%). As to ichthyoplankton, 29 fish families encountered, Clupeidae (35.8%). They represented by Sardinella spp (98.0%) Sardina pilchardus (2.0%). An...

This study investigated variations of landings two key species, Sardinella aurita and maderensis, in Senegalese waters over a ten-year period (2004–2013). Using generalized additive models, it was found that fishing gear played major role explaining differences monthly for both species (51–71% deviance explained). Its effect more significant the southern part Senegal. Fishing effort (number trips) accounted only 4–18% variability landings. Purse seine (PS) most important contributor to...

We examined growth rates and reproductive characteristics of Sardinella aurita off Senegal other coastal areas over a 20 year period (1995-2014) to determine how they relate variations in environmental waters. Based on fish length-frequency data upwelling index, we found that S. recruitment tends occur during the periods most intensive (March-April Senegal). Peak reproduction corresponds low sea-surface temperature (in February or March). The sex ratio was remarkably consistent 30 study so...

Using catch composition data collected on individual fishing trips between 1990 and 2001, we study tactics strategies of the coastal demersal trawlers operating in Senegal. Types actions (tactics) are defined through fourteen stocks. units (strategies) according to they can use. These two typologies built using K Means method, a non hierarchical classification approach. As results, twelve six primarily identified. expert knowledge some gathered eight five finally considered discussed with...
