The syntheses and characterisation of the first 10 homologues 1-(4-cyanobiphenyl-4′-yl)-6-(4-alkyloxyanilinebenzylidene-4′-oxy)hexanes (CB6O.Om) are reported. All exhibit nematic, N, twist-bend NTB, phases. In addition, an intercalated, anticlinic smectic C, SmCA, phase is observed for m = 3–5. A second seen 4,5 but which no structural information was obtained. For short chain lengths, local packing in nematic phases intercalated arrangement. As length increases monolayer fluctuations both...
Abstract The application of machine learning models to predict material properties is determined by the availability high-quality data. We present an expert-curated dataset lithium ion conductors and associated conductivities measured a.c. impedance spectroscopy. This has 820 entries collected from 214 sources; contain a chemical composition, expert-assigned structural label, ionic conductivity at specific temperature (from 5 873 °C). There are 403 unique compositions with near room (15–35...
We report a new nickel hydroxyfluoride diaspore Ni(OH)F prepared using hydrothermal synthesis from NiCl2·6H2O and NaF. Magnetic characterization reveals that, contrary to other reported transition-metal diaspores, displays weak ferromagnetism below the magnetic ordering temperature. To understand this difference, neutron diffraction is used determine long-range structure. The structure found be distinct those for diaspores shows an antiferromagnetic spin in which ferromagnetic canting...
The critical behavior at the transition from uniform nematic to twist-bend modulated phase is revealed and shown be well explained by mean field approximation. study was performed on a group of materials that exhibit an unusually broad temperature range above phase, so in which order parameter fluctuations are strong can experimentally observed wide. formation instantaneous helices already several degrees temperature, strongly influencing birefringence system. analysis part changes provides...
The best piezoelectric properties of any perovskite oxide known are found in the solid solution relaxor Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 and ferroelectric PbTiO3. Despite its impressive properties, this system has limited analogy. We present compositional exploration Pb-free analogue (1-x)(K1/2Bi1/2)(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-x(K1/2Bi1/2)TiO3 (KBMN-KBT). locate morphotropic phase boundary between x = 0.86 0.88 changing from Cm to Pm symmetry optimally performing composition at 0.88. report a figure merit (d33*) 192 pm...
Abstract The synthesis of a Cu 4 (OH) cube which is coordinated by four molecules the dipyridyl ligand 1,6‐[di(pyridin‐4‐yl)hex‐3‐ene] reported. This compound has trans double bond restricts conformational freedom and favours coordination within unique copper cube. structure was solved an X‐Ray single crystal determination low temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements examined its properties. classification corresponds to type I Mergehenn Haase short/long distribution ⋅⋅⋅ separations...
