A sensor network is described which obtains data from nodes on and inside glaciers. Power management through scheduling selective control used to allow a lifetime of at least one year batteries. Radio links in the glacier across 2.5 km distances are for commands. The prototype system was installed Norway 2003 this paper describes details full design 2004 discussion lessons learnt.

This paper describes a decade of work on digital imaging for museums. From 1989 to 1992, the visual arts system archiving and retrieval images (VASARI) project produced digital-imaging that made color-calibrated up 20000/spl times/20000 pixels directly from paintings. It used seven color-separation bands in visible region, resulting an average color error around 1 /spl Delta/E*/sub ab/ unit. These have since been monitor condition paintings, document paintings during conservation treatment,...

This paper discusses the interim results of AHRC RTISAD project. The project has developed and tested a range techniques for gathering processing reflectance transformation imaging (RTI) data. It also assembled detailed understanding breadth RTI practice. Over past decade applications algorithms in broad domain increased markedly, with current working addressing issues such as large resolution capture, 3D RTI, annotation, enhancement amongst others. Capture datasets begun to occur all...

Abstract The Internet of Things is a term which has emerged to describe the increase connectivity everyday objects. While wireless sensor networks have developed highly energy efficient designs they need step change in their interoperability and usability become essential tools study our environment. This paper shows how (IoT) can be seen as natural evolution environmental sensing systems. We discuss different styles examples IoT systems illustrate key technical challenges ahead. future...

This paper reports on the development of a utility-based mechanism for managing sensing and communication in cooperative multi-sensor networks. The specific application considered is that GLACSWEB, deployed system uses battery-powered sensors to collect environmental data related glaciers which it transmits back base station so can be made available world-wide researchers. In this context, we first develop protocol each sensor locally adjusts its rate based value believes will observe. Then,...

Sensing devices are increasingly being deployed to monitor the physical world around us. One class of application for which sensor data is pertinent environmental decision support systems, e.g., flood emergency response. For these applications, readings need be put in context by integrating them with other sources about surrounding environment. Traditional systems predicting and detecting floods rely on methods that significant human resources. In this paper we describe a semantic web...

At a first glance there might appear to be an obvious alignment and overlap between the approaches prescribed by REST Linked Data. On more detailed inspection divergences in scope applicability present themselves, for some aspects, incompatibility. In this paper we investigate these similarities differences suggest coupling is worthy of third look: combination as flexible environment which developer can focus on domain driven applications.
