There is an urgent need to develop global observation networks quantify biodiversity trends for evaluating achievements of targets Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Camera traps are a commonly used tool, with the potential enhance monitoring wildlife population and has capacity constitute by applying unified sampling protocol. The Snapshot protocol simple easy camera trapping which applied in North America Europe. However, there no regional camera-trap network Asia. We present...

Overuse of natural resources by humans is a major threat to biodiversity. often involves species economic or esthetic value, and fish are typical example for group that exploited both reasons (for human consumption) (e.g. aquarists). Pseudorhodeus tanago (Tanaka, 1909) (formerly known as Tanakia tanago) small colorful but legally protected (fishing, keeping transfer banned) bitterling distributed around Tokyo, Japan. Whereas it critically endangered more habitat loss has occurred, at least...

In order to establish methodology for population estimation of Asiatic black bears using the hair-trapping method, devices were located within a study area, and basic data collected determine optimal survey period hair sampling. Bear hairs classified as three types (guard hair; G, underfur; U, intermediate I) depending on hair-bulb thickness. After DNA extraction, six microsatellite loci amelogenin locus amplified in identify individual sex, respectively. The number by decreased dramatically...

The aims of this study were to elucidate factors contributing the expansion distributions sika deer and wild boar in Japan predict their by 2025, 2050, 2100. A site occupancy model was constructed using information on species distribution collected Ministry Environment 1978, 2003, 2014, 2018, days snow cover, forested road areas, elevation, human population, distance from occupied grid cells as covariates calculate probability change. Factors elucidated predicted. Distance had strongest...

After the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, we studied chromosomal aberrations (dicentrics and translocations) in splenic lymphocytes of wild mice inhabiting prefecture. Here, report frequencies large Japanese field (Apodemus speciosus) captured from 2012 to 2016 a heavily contaminated area. The were detected using newly developed 4-color FISH (fluorescence situ hybridization) with A. speciosus chromosome 1-, 3-, 4- 5-specific painting probes. July October 2014 significantly...

A new laser interferometric measuring machine for the sphere diameter has been developed. In machine, a 633 nm commercial stabilized He-Ne and variable length vacuum cell made of metal bellows are employed. It became possible to make on beam path, so air turbulences excluded effect refractive index is eliminated. The Abbe's principle alignment workpiece with measurement satisfied. Moreover, control mechanism contact force, which coincided axis beam, developed applied machine. As result...
