Rust fungi are destructive pathogens in crop plants, having led to epidemics and damaging crops all over the world. The rust Puccinia silphii (Basidiomycota) infects Silphium integrifolium, which is a member of most speciose plant family, Asteraceae. This study analyzes first chromosome-scale genome sequence that any dicot, or species outside Poaceae (grasses). We found it be smallest among available Pucciniales assemblies. Our final assembly was 41.7 Mb size consisted 19 pseudomolecules....

Cannabinoid production is a key attribute of the plant Can nabis sativa and characterizing genes involved an essential first step to develop tools for their optimization. We used bioinformatic approaches annotate explore variation in coding enzymes comprising cannabinoid pathway: olivetol synthase (OLS), olivetolic acid cyclase (OAC), cannabigerolic (CBGAS), oxidocyclases (THCAS, CBDAS, CBCAS) multiple C. genome assemblies from diverse lineages. The former three generate precursor molecules...

Lewis flax (Linum lewisii) is widely distributed across western North America and currently used in native ecosystem restoration. There also growing interest de novo domestication of as a perennial oilseed crop. To better understand this species facilitate both restoration domestication, we common gardens to assess biogeographical variation variety seed growth traits from 37 accessions, consisting 35 wild populations the Intermountain West region, pre-variety germplasm Maple Grove (L....

ABSTRACT Linum lewisii , a perennial blue flax native to North America, holds potential as sustainable crop for oilseed production due its ecological adaptability, upright harvestable structure, nutritious seeds, and low insect disease issues. Its distribution spans large geographic range, from the Pacific Coast Mississippi River, Alaska Baja California. Tolerant cold drought conditions, this species is also important ecosystem rehabilitation. enhancement of soil health, support pollinators,...

Hirundo is the most species-rich genus of passerine swallow family (Hirundinidae) and has a cosmopolitan distribution. Here we report complete, annotated mitochondrial genomes for 25 individuals from 10 14 extant species; these include representatives four subspecies barn swallow, H. rustica. Mitogenomes were conserved in size, ranging 18,500 to 18,700 base pairs. They all contained 13 protein-coding regions, 22 tRNAs, control region, large small ribosomal subunits. Phylogenetic analysis...

ABSTRACT Regulation of gene expression is a critical link between genotype and phenotype explaining substantial heritable variation within species. However, we are only beginning to understand the ways that specific regulatory mechanisms contribute adaptive divergence populations. In plants, post-transcriptional mechanism alternative splicing (AS) plays an important role in both development abiotic stress response, making it compelling potential target natural selection. AS allows organisms...
