Abstract The relationship between fish functional diversity and fishing levels at which its baselines shift is important to identify the consequences of in ecosystem functioning. For first time, authors this study implemented a trait‐based approach Argentine Patagonian Sea vulnerability spatiotemporal changes assemblages incidentally captured by trawling fleet targeting red shrimp Pleoticus muelleri (Spence Bate, 1888) 2003 2014. coupled seven trophic traits reconstructed assemblage for area...

In the Province of Chubut (43°S–47°S), from 2001 to 2005 an on-board observers program analyzed 18 903 fishing hauls captured at depths 19–104 m. Sport tournaments near Puerto Rawson, Chubut, were also monitored 2004 2006. The aim was document southward expansion five cartilaginous fish species and ten bony caught in Central Patagonian waters (Argentina): Psammobatis extenta, bergi, Atlantoraja castelnaui, Sympterygia acuta, Torpedo puelcha, Selene setapinnis, Oncopterus darwini, Dules...

Abstract A specimen of Prionotus punctatus was caught in Bahía Engaño, Chubut Province, Patagonia, Argentina. This extends the known distribution by 900 km and a 5.5° further south from its previous southernmost record. record increases number species genus fish diversity central Patagonia. The presence P. along with other recent reports tropical subtropical lineages Patagonia adds new evidence on ongoing tropicalization Patagonian Sea.

Chondrichthyans are usually caught incidentally in fisheries for species of high commercial value and then discarded on board or landed as by-products. On the coast Chubut province adjacent waters (43°00′S–44°56′S) a bottom trawl fishery has developed targeted at Patagonian shrimp ( Pleoticus muelleri ) common hake Merluccius hubbsi ). Since 2005, this been monitored by On-board Observers Program (POBCh). With aim advancing towards an ecosystem approach, POBCh not only collects information...

Bottom trawl fishing is the most used worldwide gear generating large amounts of discards due to bycatch a variety species. Shrimp fisheries are recognized for their high incidence in global discards. In waters Patagonia Argentina (43°S - 47°S) an industrial shrimp fishery economic value developed whose target species Patagonian Pleoticus muelleri. The information presented this study comprises period 12 years (2003-2014) and it was gathered by On-board Observer Program. Program collects all...

Abstract Crabs are fundamental in coastal ecosystems due to their role nutrient cycling, habitat structuring, population control and as indicators of environmental health. Investigating the size distribution life stages these species is crucial for understanding ecology designing effective conservation strategies.
