This study investigates the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspection of 3D-printed fibre-reinforced polymers, comparing conventional Active Transient Thermography (ATT) technique with a novel variant known as Double (DATT). Finite element models for simulation both techniques are validated by evaluating two statistical measures to correlate numerical results experimental responses. The thermal contrast obtained DATT was approximately twice one ATT, all tested samples. Numerical allowed an...

Whiplash injuries, mainly located in the neck, are one of most common injuries resulting from road collisions. These can be particularly challenging to detect, compromising ability monitor patients adequately. This work presents development and validation a computationally efficient model, called Efficient Neck Model—2D (ENM-2D), capable simulating whiplash injury mechanism. ENM-2D is planar multibody model consisting several bodies that head neck with same mass inertia properties male...

A validated framework developed to analyse railway occupant safety is presented here. The inexistence of restraints and the larger distance between contact features for cabin interior decreases predictability on kinematics its occupants. Simulation results are evaluated considering severity injuries, assessed quantified using relevant criteria. It was introduced a head padding that conducted reduction Head Injury Criterion (HIC) but worsening value neck-bending moment in extension (NBME)....

Iongel-based CO2 separation membranes were prepared by fast (< 1 min) UV-initiated polymerization of poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) in the presence different ionic liquids (ILs) with [C2mim]+ cation and anions such as [TFSI]-, [FSI]-, [C(CN)3]- [B(CN)4]-. The four ILs completely miscible non-ionic PEGDA network. Transparent free-standing iongels containing between 60 90 %wt IL obtained characterized diverse techniques (FTIR, TGA, DSC, DMTA, SEM, solubility pure gas permeability)....

This paper presents the validation of a finite element model in LS-DYNA interior inline seating layout simulating frontal rail impact event for which experimental test results provide reference injury biomechanics occupants. The representative consists two rows seats and its supporting structures modelled with nonlinear elements crash acceleration pulse that represents railway vehicle structure is imposed floor coach. For appropriate identification mechanisms to occupant associated analysis...

The use of lightweight structures is a current concern in several engineering domains. To obtain such types structures, the bonding technique using Carbon Fibre-Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) has been most recently considered primary option. If CFRP known to have high strength-to-weight ratio or corrosion resistance, does not need add other fixation components and it also prevents stress concentrations. However, when combined with, e.g. metallic surface, difference between thermal expansion...

Abstract Introduction Chronotropic incompetence (CI) is prevalent among individuals with cardiovascular disease. This phenomenon frequently noted in cardio-pulmonary exercise testing (CPET) patients participating cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs and often attributed to a combination of factors, notably the administration beta-blockers (BB). Recent evidence casted doubt over long term beta-blocker use on ischemic pts preserved ejection fraction some large scale trials as BETAMI DANBLOCK...

Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Introduction Severe aortic stenosis (AS) represents an important cause morbidity and mortality, being valve replacement the cornerstone for prognostic shift. Although mild moderate AS are regarded as low risk, its benign course has recently been challenged. Purpose to evaluate cardiovascular (CV) events identify factors in patients (pts) with AS. Methods Single center observational study pts consecutive echocardiographic...
