Abstract Physical laws governing friction on shallow faults in the Earth and spatial heterogeneity of parameters are critical to our understanding earthquake physics assessment hazards. Here we use a laboratory-derived fault-friction law high-quality strong-motion seismic recordings 2020 Elazığ earthquake, Turkey, reveal complex rupture dynamics. We discover an initial Mw 5.8 stage explain how cascading behavior event, involving at least three episodes, each M > 6, caused it evolve into...

Key to studies of the rupture process is identification its major segmentation into asperities. Common multi-parametric methods invert for a continuous slip distribution; they usually rely on predefined fault position, nucleation point, planarity, smoothing, etc. Here we propose more flexible low-parametric inversions - multi-point seismic source models, and multi-patch GPS models. We study recent Mw 7.8 7.5 earthquakes in Eastern-Anatolian system, recorded high-quality near-regional network...

Abstract Turkey is located in a seismically active region with complex tectonic history. In order to perform seismic risk assessment precisely, major fault zones (North Anatolian Fault Zone and East Zone) that are well defined monitored continuously. It widely known fact intraplate settings, such as Plate, which devastating earthquakes may occur, need be observed densely. this study, we investigate the seismotectonics of Malatya within Ovacık (MOFZ), one agents responsible for internal...

We used full waveforms of the Hellenic Unified Seismic Network (HUSN) regional stations and a frequency range 0.03-0.06 Hz. calculated moment tensors (MTs) focused on their ISO CLVD components. In tested depth 1-20 km, medians (=VOL) are positive, but 68% confidence intervals broad due to tradeoff non-DC with depth. When constraining source depths ≥ 7 indicated by relocations, MTs have unambiguously positive CLVD, pointing shear-opening process.

This study explores the integration of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) techniques into seismic monitoring framework Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute (KOERI), enhancing accuracy reliability event detection, location, magnitude determination. The implementation leverages graph neural networks (GNNs) for phase association location problems, alongside pretrained AI models picking. GNN is trained using datasets from both Marmara Maraş regions, resulting...

The Sea of Marmara, located along the North Anatolian Fault (NAF) system, represents a geologically significant region where fault’s bifurcation into northern and southern branches plays key role in shaping region's tectonic framework.  The NAF, acting as primary driver, has not only shaped basin's morphology but also controlledits seismicity, making area for studying active processes earthquake hazards. İzmit Gulf, at easternmost part Marmara Sea, is particular...
