ABSTRACT Accurate corner-frequency (fc) measurements are crucial for precise stress-drop (Δσ) estimates, essential understanding earthquake mechanics and predicting ground motions, directly impacting seismic hazard assessments. This study investigated fc variations six earthquakes (Mw 3.2–3.8) across different tectonic regions: two from the 2019 Ridgecrest sequence in California (R1 R2) four Korean Peninsula-the 2022 Goesan mainshock (GM) its foreshock (GF), 2020 Haenam (HM) during a...

Summary The 2011 Tohoku-Oki earthquake caused significant postseismic (PS) deformations in a broad region East Asia including the southern Korean Peninsula (SKP). In this study, we aim to better characterize PS SKP and understand underlying physical mechanisms for them using linear Maxwell viscoelastic numerical models. We computed annual mean velocities by applying extended trend modeling technique publicly available Global Navigation Satellite System data. then derived yearly deformation...

Abstract On October 28, 2022, a moment magnitude (Mw) 3.8 earthquake occurred in Goesan, South Korea, typically characterized as stable continental region. Herein, we analyze 42 earthquakes, including the Mw earthquake, largest foreshock (Mw 3.3), which preceded mainshock by 17 s, and aftershock 2.9). The primary aim of this study is to identify interactions among seismic events. To end, utilized permanent networks with closest station at 8.3 km from epicenter, temporary network deployed...

Abstract The 2017 Pohang earthquake (M w 5.4) is the largest associated with fluid injection activities. We report new characteristics of and propose a dislocation‐type model explaining previously reported observations. identify fault geometry by relocating hypocenters 1,132 events that occurred during first 3 months then resolve their source regions as northern, central, southern patches, based on event groups similar waveforms. spatial features these waveform groups, in addition to our...

We performed seismic noise level analysis to access the proper functioning of 11 newly established stations in southeastern region Korea. One-hour long segments seismograms were selected from continuous data 3 elements for 61 days March 1, 2019. For each segment data, power spectral density (PSD) was estimated back ground periods ranging 0.02~100 s. The median levels (NLs) compared with new model (NNM) USGS and NLs station TJN installed a tunnel on granite basement. observed that...

If local minima are present in a calculation of an objective function, it is difficult to identify subsurface information. Therefore, essential exploit new technique reduce the number seismic inversions. To make steepest descent direction head toward global minimum, we propose using full waveform inversion with filtering techniques. During process, allocated time window that includes corresponding highest amplitude each observed trace. In function L2 ‐ norm, data contained by only employed....
