Campylobacter species are the pathogens of intestinal tract, which infrequently cause bacteremia. To reveal clinical characteristics bacteremia, we performed a retrospective, multicenter study. Patients diagnosed with bacteremia in three general hospitals western Japan between 2011 and 2021 were included Clinical, microbiological, prognostic data patients obtained from medical records. We stratified cases into gastroenteritis (GE) fever predominant (FP) types by focusing on presence...

The worldwide spread of tick-borne diseases (TBDs) has become a public health concern. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify trends in the incidence Japanese spotted fever (JSF), one Japan's most prevalent TBDs. Weekly infectious disease reports were used calculate annual rates (AIRs) JSF. Data stratified by age and sex, joinpoint regression analysis was performed estimate percentage change (APC). AIR APC geographically compared among 47 prefectures. A total 3,453 JSF cases observed from...

Abstract This study examined temporal trend, seasonality, and geographical variations of legionellosis incidence mortality in Japan. nationwide observational used the Japanese Vital Statistics Infectious Diseases Weekly Report (1999–2017) data to calculate crude age-adjusted rates per 100,000 population by age sex. Incidence was compared among 4 seasons regional 47 prefectures. Of 13,613 (11,194 men) people with Japan, 725 (569 were fatal. Increasing trend occurred from 0.0004 (1999) 1.37...

We have isolated a blaNDM-1-harbouring ST147 Klebsiella pneumoniae strain from Ukrainian immigrant hospitalized at Japanese hospital, which was genetically corroborated to be highly identical Russian-derived isolate. This case highlights that the geopolitical risk potentially increases global dissemination of antimicrobial resistance pathogens.

Abstract Background We aimed to improve the prognosis, treatment, and management of Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia (SAB) by evaluating association between adherence quality indicators (QIs) clinical outcomes in patients with their outcomes. Methods retrospectively collected microbiological data on hospitalized SAB from 14 hospitals (three > 600, two 401–600, five 201–400, four ≤ 200 beds) Japan January December 2022. The was evaluated using SAB-QI score (ranging 0 13 points), which...

Abstract Tuberculous meningitis is possibly complicated with multiple cerebral infarctions and basal meningitis, the mortality neurological prognosis reportedly poor. This case suggested that clinicians should consider tuberculous as a differential diagnosis of patients disturbed consciousness in an aging country Japan.

Abstract Purpose Following the COVID-19 pandemic, group A Streptococcus (GAS) infection has been surging worldwide. We aimed to compare disease burden between notified cases of streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS) and unreported GAS infections. Methods This is a multicentral observational study, retrospectively performed at seven hospitals in Okayama prefecture Japan from January 2022, June 2024. Clinical microbiological data patients with positive cultures were collected medical...

Antimicrobial resistance is an emerging global threat that must be addressed using a multidisciplinary approach. This study aimed to raise awareness of high-level antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) pathogens in Japan by comparing their recent prevalences among prefectures, particularly Okayama. Data for the isolation proportions meropenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium, cefotaxime-resistant Escherichia coli...
