Covers advancements in spacecraft and tactical strategic missile systems, including subsystem design application, mission analysis, materials structures, developments space sciences, processing manufacturing, operations, applications of technologies to other fields.
Shock-wave/turbulent boundary-layer interactions in the presence of thermal and chemical nonequilibrium phenomena are analyzed. The approach relies on a linear eddy viscosity two-equation turbulence modeling that accounts for coupling with chemistry vibration, it employs total variation diminishing e nite volume numerical methodology. capability model has rst been assessed cylinder cone guration, results have compared experiments. then applied to assess aerodynamic performance control...
Supersonic plasma jet targets can improve the present knowledge on low energy nuclear reaction cross sections allowing to study electron screening effects. They could also be employed both in preliminary tests of space vehicles thermal protection systems and validation computational fluid dynamics (CFD) evaluation hot exotic gases. This common interest between astrophysics research led a joint effort European Recoil Separator for Nuclear Astrophysics collaboration Italian National Institute...

The influence of the local effects rarefaction on prediction main parameters typical Shock Wave - Boundary Layer Interaction are presented and analyzed. Slip flow boundary conditions have been implemented in CIRA CFD code H3NS, results compared with available wind tunnel experiments DSMC results. Finally, an experimental test case, planned Plasma Wind Tunnel facility, has analyzed order to check possible rarefaction.
§currently at ALSTOM, Brown Boveri Strasse 7, Baden CH-5401, Switzerland This paper presents some applications of the CIRA 3D code C3NS-DB in simulation typical problems supersonic combustion. After a brief description, trade-off analysis, carried out order to find reduced kinetic mechanism for Air-H2 combustion, is presented. The selected has be computationally not heavy but, same time, accurate prediction ignition delay time and adiabatic flame temperature. Furthermore, 2D flow reproducing...
First subject of the present paper has been experimental and numerical characterization test chamber flow DLR-V2G low-density wind tunnel, in frame EU-FP7 FAST20XX project activities dedicated to validation tools able predict rarefaction effects suborbital flight. Pitot pressure radial profiles measured at different positions downstream have compared nozzle exit results obtained with methodologies accounting for (CFD slip-flow boundary conditions, a hybrid CFD-DSMC procedure), re-definition...
The industrial and scientific communities are devoting major research efforts to identify assess critical technologies for new advanced propulsive concepts: combustion at high pressure, as well the replacement of hydrogen with a hydrocarbon, has been assumed key issue achieve better performances lower environmental impact reduce costs related ground operations (propellant handling infrastructure procedures) increase flexibility. Starting from this background, present work describes CFD...

*† This paper provides a detailed investigation of nonequilibrium real-gas effects hypersonic speed in the forebody region typical re-entry vehicle. A finite rate chemistry model based on Scott is implemented here and for an extensive catalysis modeling relevance simulations with non-catalytic wall conditions are computed as well those full catalytic boundary conditions. Turbulence considered to investigate its coupling chemistry. The method developed then used compute flow features around...
This paper describes a simplified procedure for the preliminary design and analysis of scramjet engine: tip-to-tail flow inside propulsion system is simulated assuming one-dimensional model compression, combustion expansion processes. Predicted engine’s performances along an assigned flight path are presented, with CFD selected points engine components, to assess accuracy reliability developed tool.
