The CARICOMP monitoring network gathered standardized data from 52 seagrass sampling stations at 22 sites (mostly Thalassia testudinum-dominated beds in reef systems) across the Wider Caribbean twice a year over period 1993 to 2007 (and some cases up 2012). Wide variations community total biomass (285 >2000 g dry m−2) and annual foliar productivity of dominant T. testudinum (<200 were found among sites. Solar-cycle related intra-annual leaf detected latitudes > 16°N. Hurricanes had little no...
Costa Rica has coral communities and reefs on the Caribbean coast Pacific along off-shore islands. The Southern section of fringing patch reefs, carbonate banks, an incipient algal ridge. communities, isolated colonies. Coral have been seriously impacted in last 30 years, mainly by sediments (Caribbean some reefs) El Niño warming events (both coasts). Monitoring is being carried out at three sites each coast. Both coasts suffered significant reductions live cover 1980’s, but now...
Isla del Caño is a marine protected area on the south Pacific coast of Costa Rica, surrounded by coral reefs and communities. The ecology these has been studied for over 20 years, but they have not mapped. Maps are considered great research, planning, management monitoring tool. Medium to high resolution images (HyMap 2005 Quickbird 2007 respectively) were processed classified in order test compare their accuracy producing habitat map. Manta tow surveys performed field identification 7...
The Miskitus Cays, on the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, consist eighty mangrove and two sand gravel cays, surrounded by seagrass beds, octocoral gardens, patch reefs, reef crests, extended algae platforms, short walls, marginal reefs around cays. Seventy sites were inspected eighteen selected for rapid assessments in order to determine status coral reefs. Linear transects intercept point methods used relative benthic cover, density, size health colonies was estimated following AGRRA...
In the present investigation, growth conditions in a fermentation process at 35 °C, 180 rpm for 60 h, of four strains commercial bacteria DRI SET 432, FAS 992, Bacillus subtilis, and water kefir were compared two media (M1 base medium M2 supplemented with E. crassipes hydrolysate). The metabolic response was monitored evaluated by means biomass production Mc Farland turbidimetric method (cells.mL-1), sugar consumption (g.L-1) DNS lactic acid (%) NTC 4978, these controls performed every 12 h....

The: bottom topography around Isla del Cano, to a distance of 11 km was determined during the Costa Rica expedition German Research Vessel Victor Hensen. A map resulting from that survey is presented in this paper. Additionally, sediment samples were taken using box corer, along three transects, one on north side island, northwest and east. The sediments Cano are tenigenous origin. with small contributions carbonates island's coral reefs.
