In this study, we employed microcosms to study the effects of marine dilbit spill and dispersant application on microbial community dynamics over time. We evaluated impacts microcosm scale found that increasing is beneficial for reducing stochasticity, especially in late stage biodegradation.

One of the most commonly produced industrial chemicals worldwide, bisphenol A (BPA), is used as a precursor in plastics, resins, paints, and many other materials. It has been proved that BPA can cause long-term adverse effects on ecosystems human health due to its toxicity an endocrine disruptor. In this study, we developed integrated MnO2/UV/persulfate (PS) process for use photocatalytic degradation from water examined reaction mechanisms, pathways, reduction. Comparative tests using MnO2,...

Although massive studies have investigated the spatiotemporally occurring marine plastisphere, a new microbial ecosystem colonizing surfaces of plastics, resulting biofragmentation process and impacts plastics on biogeochemical cycles remain largely unknown. Here, we leverage synchrotron-based Fourier transform infrared spectromicroscopy (FTIR mapping) metagenomic sequencing to explore independent microcosms amended with petroleum-based polyethylene (PE) biobased polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB)...

Chlorination is one of the most applied technologies for drinking water disinfection. However, generation disinfection by-products (DBPs) in chlorination process a major concern terms safety, especially when levels natural organic matter (NOM) are high source water. Climate change increases fluctuation NOM water, which further challenges safety small and rural communities. In this study, environmental microfluidics was introduced to UVA-LED photocatalytic oxidation system rapid NOM. The...

Abstract Activated carbon (AC) was prepared from Platanus orientalis leaves by H3PO4 activation using a microwave heating method and characterized SEM (scanning electron microscopy), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area analysis FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) techniques. AC exhibited of 1089.67 m2/g relatively high pore volume 1.468 cm3/g. Utilization for the removal Cr(VI) aqueous solution researched. The adsorption efficiency highly pH dependent capacity could reach up...

Mechanical oil recovery (i.e., booming and skimming) is the most common tool for spill response. Under this procedure recovered fluid generated from skimming processes during response may contain a considerable proportion of water (10% ~ 70%). As result regulatory requirements prohibiting discharge contaminated waters at sea, oil-water mixtures onboard vessels and/or storage barges must make frequent trips to shore waste disposal. This practice can be time- consuming require lot resources...
