We developed a contactless syndromic surveillance platform FluSense that aims to expand the current paradigm of influenza-like illness (ILI) by capturing crowd-level bio-clinical signals directly related physical symptoms ILI from hospital waiting areas in an unobtrusive and privacy-sensitive manner. consists novel edge-computing sensor system, models data processing pipelines track crowd behaviors influenza-related indicators, such as coughs, predict daily laboratory-confirmed influenza...
Contact tracing is a well-established and effective approach for the containment of spread infectious diseases. While Bluetooth-based contact method using phones has become popular recently, these approaches suffer from need critical mass adoption to be effective. In this paper, we present WiFiTrace, network-centric that relies on passive WiFi sensing with no client-side involvement. Our exploits network logs gathered by enterprise networks performance security monitoring, utilizes them...
We simulated epidemic projections of a potential COVID-19 outbreak in residential university population the United States under varying combinations asymptomatic tests (5% to 33% per day), transmission rates (2.5% 14%), and contact (1 25), identify rate threshold that, if exceeded, would lead exponential growth infections. Using this, we extracted thresholds among non-essential workers, size absence vaccines, vaccine coverage thresholds. further stream-lined our analyses 5 8%, correspond...
While passive audio recording of a crowd contains information about density, such algorithm has limited applicability in hospital and clinical spaces with higher privacy expectations. In this preliminary work, we propose Crowdotic that uses transformer-based model exclusively non-speech segments for density estimation waiting room. To accomplish this, deployed our sensor-based platform the room large IRB approval over period several months to capture thermal images training evaluation...

Privacy-preserving crowd density analysis finds application across a wide range of scenarios, substantially enhancing smart building operation and management while upholding privacy expectations in various spaces. We propose non-speech audio-based approach for analytics, leveraging transformer-based model. Our results demonstrate that audio alone can be used to conduct such with remarkable accuracy. To the best our knowledge, this is first time when signals are proposed predicting occupancy....
Influenza is a highly contagious respiratory infection that leads to regular seasonal epidemics. It major contributor morbidity and mortality, in the United States, since 2010, it has infected between 9.2 million 60.8 people caused 12,000 56,000 deaths. [2]. Moreover, economic impact [1] of influenza estimated be 47 billion 150 dollars per year USA alone.
