Abstract Stock‐based and ecosystem‐based indicators are used to provide a new diagnosis of the fishing impact environmental status E uropean seas. In seven European marine ecosystems covering B altic N orth‐east A tlantic, (i) trends in landings since 1950 were examined; (ii) syntheses fish stocks consolidated at ecosystem level; (iii) based on surveys analysed.
