An overview is provided of the 15 neutron beam instruments making up initial instrument suite European Spallation Source (ESS), and being made available to user community. The ESS source consists a high-power accelerator target station, providing unique long-pulse time structure slow neutrons. design considerations behind structure, moderator geometry layout are presented. 15-instrument two small-angle instruments, reflectometers, an imaging beamline, single-crystal diffractometers; one for...

We have studied the motion of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) nanoparticles modified with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) arms immersed in PEG matrices different molecular weight. Employing neutron spin echo spectroscopy combination pulsed field gradient (PFG) NMR we found following. (i) For entangled center mass mean square displacement (MSD) PEG-POSS particles is subdiffusive following a t^{0.56} power law. (ii) The diffusion coefficient as well crossover to Fickian independent...

We report on magnetic-field–dependent small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) experiments nanocrystalline inert-gas condensed bulk Gd, which was synthesized using the low-capturing isotope 160Gd. The angular dependency of cross-section is in very good agreement with recent theoretical predictions. Rather unexpected for this type material, we observe a clover-leaf–shaped anisotropy SANS signal, origin attributed to existence longitudinal magnetization fluctuations associated atomic site...

The relaxation time spectrum in blends of architecturally different polymers with strongly disperse scales has been investigated by their time-dependent small angle neutron scattering signal after a fast uniaxial step strain. Model-hyperbranched dendrimeric second generation, dilutely dispersed within linear homopolymer matrices, acted like sensitive probes for structurally, though not firmly, established features the tube model bidisperse melts. We showed that equilibration matrix...

Rather dilute mixtures of oppositely charged polyelectrolyte and surfactant can form highly viscous solutions for an excess charges present, with viscosities up to 4 orders magnitude above the pure solution. These changes in macroscopic behavior should originate from mesoscopic properties. Therefore, structure dynamics such mixtures, namely JR 400 SDS (h- or d-SDS) have been investigated using small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) neutron-spin echo (NSE), where contrast matching allows...

Based on experimental magnetic-field-dependent neutron scattering data, we have calculated the autocorrelation function of spin misalignment nanocrystalline (160)gadolinium. The analysis suggests existence two characteristic length scales in system: smaller one is about 5 nm and attributed to defect cores grain boundaries, whereas larger scale order average crystallite size D = 21 presumably describes response magnetization magnetic anisotropy field individual crystallites.

The early stages of precipitate formation in Fe-25at% Co-9at% Mo at 500 °C was investigated by situ small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). ratio magnetic to nuclear SANS intensity, which depends on the composition, and sizes were analyzed. results suggest that Fe-Co-Mo alloy an initial stage with strong compositional changes is completed after 150 s, when full signal established.
