Differential equations describing the behaviour of very general mixtures are derived by Prof Burgers from starting point Maxwell–Boltzmann equation which governs individual particle velocity distribution functions. The moment method is employed throughout, so that it necessary at some stage to truncate scheme representing higher moments as suitably chosen functions lower moments, and there not much discussion limitations this approach.
The production processes and spatial distribution of fast ions resulting from tangential injection a diffuse neutral beam into tokamak are discussed. for various trajectories absorption mean free paths calculated discussed in detail. Maximum parabolic density profile is shown to occur roughly halfway between the inner wall torus magnetic axis; however, since this maximum near unity only weakly dependent on trajectory, not most important possible optimization. Since drift orbit surface area...
An analytic theory is developed to calculate poloidal beta ${\ensuremath{\beta}}_{I}$ and the diamagnetic parameter ${\ensuremath{\mu}}_{I}$ for axisymmetric toroidal magnetohydrodynamic equilibria confining high-pressure plasmas [$\ensuremath{\beta}\ensuremath{\sim}O(\frac{a}{R})$] under constraint of flux conservation. To satisfy equilibrium equations, plasma current increases with pressure as ${p}^{\frac{1}{3}}$. Previously calculated limits on $\ensuremath{\beta}$ are avoided.

The equations for planar two-dimensional steady flow of an ideal dissociating gas are linearized, assuming small disturbances to a free stream in chemical equilibrium. As example their solution, the past sharp corner supersonic is evaluated and variations properties relaxation zone found. Numerical illustrations provided using ‘oxygen-like’ comparisons made with characteristics solution. can be studied conventional shock tube it may possible verify present theory experimentally. In...
This paper presents experimental and modelling results of an ultra-compact self-rectifier flux pump energizing a superconducting coil. The device fits inside volume 65x65x50~mm generates up to 320~A dc through the coil peak output voltage 60~mV. We also develop present full electromagnetic effective circuit model compare its predictions results. show that our can reproduce accurately charging load it reproduces systematic dependence maximum current on input waveform. experiments together...
The evolutionary cycle of the nocturnal radiation inversion layer, from formation through time erosion under fair weather summer conditions was investigated by time-series analyses observations base and top heights, strength at an urban a nonurban site in St. Louis, Missouri. time-dependent behavior each parameter is presented statistical least-squares regression analyses. Differences evolution between these sites are discussed. A surface-based generally formed before sunset site, growth...
A comprehensive neoclassical transport theory for a multispecies plasma in the low collision frequency banana regime is developed. recently developed approximate operator used to analytically calculate coefficients nonisothermal, finite beta arbitrary mass ratios and all values of aspect ratio. The physical effects collisions large small ratio limits are discussed detail. bootstrap current expressed terms parallel friction forces, an explicit calculation performed case two ion species which...
A study is made of the natural convective flow which induced in an infinite expanse gas by presence a vertical hot flat plate from same chemical type being blown. The transpiration rate assumed to be such that self-similar boundary-layer solution available. It differs previous analyses following respects. Most important, density not constant t any stage description field. Also form outer domain calculated and proves substantially independent blowing this case; found large lateral extent....
The propagation of disturbances through an atmosphere that is, in its undisturbed condition, undergoing a spatially uniform chemical explosion is analysed on the assumption are small amplitude. When latter arbitrarily small, and therefore classifiable as acoustic, progress ambient to first order rather complete history acoustic waves (including weak shock waves) can be constructed. generally amplifying effect disturbances, which has previously been identified at wave heads, found occur...
Observed Doppler shifts of neutral-hydrogen ${\mathrm{H}}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}$ radiation in the poloidal and toroidal directions Oak Ridge tokamak experiment are shown to be consistent with neoclassical theory. The inferred shift distortion proton distribution function banana-plateau regime is caused by radial pressure gradient ambipolar electric field, whose steady-state value determined nonambipolar diffusion due charge exchange.
