Differential equations describing the behaviour of very general mixtures are derived by Prof Burgers from starting point Maxwell–Boltzmann equation which governs individual particle velocity distribution functions. The moment method is employed throughout, so that it necessary at some stage to truncate scheme representing higher moments as suitably chosen functions lower moments, and there not much discussion limitations this approach.

The production processes and spatial distribution of fast ions resulting from tangential injection a diffuse neutral beam into tokamak are discussed. for various trajectories absorption mean free paths calculated discussed in detail. Maximum parabolic density profile is shown to occur roughly halfway between the inner wall torus magnetic axis; however, since this maximum near unity only weakly dependent on trajectory, not most important possible optimization. Since drift orbit surface area...

An analytic theory is developed to calculate poloidal beta ${\ensuremath{\beta}}_{I}$ and the diamagnetic parameter ${\ensuremath{\mu}}_{I}$ for axisymmetric toroidal magnetohydrodynamic equilibria confining high-pressure plasmas [$\ensuremath{\beta}\ensuremath{\sim}O(\frac{a}{R})$] under constraint of flux conservation. To satisfy equilibrium equations, plasma current increases with pressure as ${p}^{\frac{1}{3}}$. Previously calculated limits on $\ensuremath{\beta}$ are avoided.

The equations for planar two-dimensional steady flow of an ideal dissociating gas are linearized, assuming small disturbances to a free stream in chemical equilibrium. As example their solution, the past sharp corner supersonic is evaluated and variations properties relaxation zone found. Numerical illustrations provided using ‘oxygen-like’ comparisons made with characteristics solution. can be studied conventional shock tube it may possible verify present theory experimentally. Observed Doppler shifts of neutral-hydrogen ${\mathrm{H}}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}$ radiation in the poloidal and toroidal directions Oak Ridge tokamak experiment are shown to be consistent with neoclassical theory. The inferred shift distortion proton distribution function banana-plateau regime is caused by radial pressure gradient ambipolar electric field, whose steady-state value determined nonambipolar diffusion due charge exchange.
