Preliminary clinical results of robotic-assisted unicompartmental knee arthroplasty

Objective To investigate the accuracy of robotic-assisted UKA and its safety short term functional outcomes.

Methods The clinical data 20 patients who received in Shanghai 6th People's Hospital Chinese PLA General from September 2016 to December were retrospectively reviewed, with 10 each hospital. All had a preoperative diagnosis osteoarthritis. Five simultaneous bilateral UKA. Of all patients, there 3 male 17 female an average age 65 years old (range 51 79 old) BMI (26.9±3.4) kg/m2. procedures performed MAKO RIO surgical system RESTORIS MCK unicompartmental knee prosthesis (STRYKER Surgical, USA). Each patient's operation time, blood loss post-operative pain scores recorded. Pre-operative society recorded; lower limb alignment position tibial component coronal plane measured.

Results For unilateral procedure, mean operating time tourniquet was (27±10) minutes. The total on post-op day 2 (476±290) mL, no transfusion needed for any patient. visual analogue scale score at 8, 16 24 hours after surgery 3.2±1.2, 1.8±0.8 1.1±0.3, respectively. (25 knees) followed-up minimal 8 weeks (average 14.1 weeks, range weeks). On latest follow-up visit, Knee Society Score improved pre-operative value 57±13 90±6, function 48±18 79±12, both changes statistically significant (t=14.941 10.014 respectively, P values 0.05). No severe complications, such as site infection, deep venous thrombosis or vascular nerve injury, observed during period.

Conclusions Robotic-assisted can provide us excellent precision through minimally invasive approach. Further long-term controlled study is required identify long outcomes role robotic technique improvement warrant.
