Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) has two major antigenic groups, A and B. The implications of these variants in the epidemiology pathogenesis RSV infection are not well defined. This study was undertaken to compare subgroups patients admitted hospital. Clinical epidemiologic features children under 30 months age with proven acute lower respiratory infections were examined during 4 winters from 1993 1996 Santa Fe, Argentina. typing carried out monoclonal antibodies nasopharyngeal cells by...

ABSTRACT Pathozyme-Myco G (Myco G), M, A, and TB complex plus (Omega Diagnostics Ltd., Alloa, Scotland) were evaluated for the serological diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) in an Argentinean population. Sera from 58 patients with TB, 24 subjects mycobacteriosis or mycoses (pulmonary MM group), 45 other underlying disorders (control group) analyzed. The sensitivities tests ranged 29% M) to 82% G) smear-positive (17 subjects) (TB plus) 49% smear-negative (41 subjects). specificities...
Introduction While there is much information about the burden of influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 in North America, little data exist on its South America. Methods During April to December 2009, we actively searched for persons with severe acute respiratory infection and influenza-like illness (ILI) three sentinel cities. A proportion case-patients provided swabs testing. We estimated number that would have tested positive by multiplying untested who positive. rates dividing census population after...
Granulysin is a human polypeptide produced by cytolytic cells active against broad range of microbes. Three peptides covering the regions 25-50 (Gr-1 and Gr-2) 39-62 (Gr-3) granulysin were synthesized, their in vitro activity Mycobacterium tuberculosis was evaluated. The most peptide Gr-1C, containing disulphide bridge, with Minimal Inhibitory Concentration value 10.1 microM. In concentrations up to 50 microM, Gr-1 Gr2 didn't exceed 30% hemolysis.
