Every cell has a silver lining! The toxicity of Ag nanoparticles is investigated using panel recombinant bioluminescent bacteria. presence the leads to production superoxide radical (see figure). Furthermore, damage cellular membranes, causing disruption in ion efflux system. Thus, cells cannot effectively extrude ions and, hence, cause more than do ions. Abstract Background In order to study the mechanism of U(VI) reduction, effect deleting c -type cytochrome genes on capacity Geobacter sulfurreducens reduce with acetate serving as electron donor was investigated. Results The ability several deficient mutants lower than that wild type strain. Elimination two confirmed outer membrane cytochromes and putative significantly decreased (ca. 50–60%) G. U(VI). Involvement in reduction did not appear be a general property cytochromes, elimination...

We have developed a unique approach for the fabrication of enzyme aggregate coatings on surfaces electrospun polymer nanofibres. This employs covalent attachment seed enzymes onto nanofibres consisting mixture polystyrene and poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride), followed by glutaraldehyde (GA) treatment that cross-links additional molecules aggregates from solution covalently attached molecules. These cross-linked aggregates, to via linkers molecules, are expected improve activity due...

ABSTRACT The araA gene encoding l -arabinose isomerase (AI) from the hyperthermophilic bacterium Thermotoga maritima was cloned and overexpressed in Escherichia coli as a fusion protein containing C-terminal hexahistidine sequence. This encodes 497-amino-acid with calculated molecular weight of 56,658. recombinant enzyme purified to homogeneity by heat precipitation followed Ni 2+ affinity chromatography. native estimated gel filtration chromatography be homotetramer mass 232 kDa. had an...

Multifunctional nanocomposites (M-CLEAs) of enzymes and magnetic nanoparticles (M-NPs) were fabricated in hierarchically ordered, mesocellular, mesoporous silica (HMMS; see Figure) by a simple process involving the co-adsorption enzyme molecules into HMMS followed glutaraldehyde (GA) treatment. These are magnetically separable highly stable active. In particular, M-CLEA–lipase shows no decrease lipase activity at all presence proteases. ABSTRACT The araA gene encoding l -arabinose isomerase (AI) from the thermoacidophilic bacterium Alicyclobacillus acidocaldarius was cloned, sequenced, and expressed in Escherichia coli . Analysis of sequence revealed that open reading frame consists 1,491 bp encodes a protein 497 amino acid residues with calculated molecular mass 56,043 Da. Comparison deduced A. AI (AAAI) other AIs demonstrated AAAI has 97% 66% identities (99% 83% similarities) to Geobacillus stearothermophilus (GSAI)...

Meso-structured onion-like silica (Meso-Onion-S) was synthesized and used as a host of enzyme immobilization. Meso-Onion-S has 200–300 nm sized primary meso-structured onion building unit, each unit highly curved mesopores 10 diameter in multishell structure. Nanoscale reactors (NERs) were prepared via two-step process adsorption subsequent cross-linking, which effectively prevents the leaching cross-linked aggregates from Meso-Onion-S. As result, NERs significantly improved stability well...

Abstract CNTs need to be dispersed in aqueous solution for their successful use, and most methods disperse rely on tedious time-consuming acid-based oxidation. Here, we report the simple dispersion of intact multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by adding them directly into an glucose oxidase (GOx), resulting simultaneous CNT facile enzyme immobilization through sequential adsorption, precipitation, crosslinking (EAPC). The EAPC achieved high loading stability because crosslinked coatings...
