Hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine, and azithromycin have been used for treatment of COVID-19, but may cause QT prolongation. Minority populations are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. This study evaluates the risk prolongation subsequent outcomes after administration these medications in largely underrepresented minority COVID-19 patients.

Patients undergoing autologous breast reconstruction have higher rates of patient-reported satisfaction compared to patients prosthetic reconstruction. Obesity has been shown increase postoperative complications in both microsurgical and implant reconstructions. The authors evaluated the effects on outcomes quality life obese patients.A retrospective review who underwent from January 2009 December 2017 was conducted. were divided into two cohorts: two-stage tissue expander/implant-based...

Mastectomy flap necrosis (MFN) is a common complication of immediate breast reconstruction that greatly affects patient satisfaction and cosmetic outcomes. Topical nitroglycerin ointment, with its low cost negligible side effects, has been shown to significantly decrease the incidence MFN in implant-based reconstruction, but utility not studied autologous reconstruction. With institutional review board approval, prospective cohort study was performed all consecutive patients undergoing...

Abstract Background Given the relatively small size of thigh-based flaps and possible necessity for a multiflap reconstruction, it is imperative to arrive at an accurate estimation flap weight during preoperative planning. It was our objective develop novel technique profunda artery perforator (PAP) weight. Methods All patients that underwent transverse PAP breast reconstruction two institutions were retrospectively reviewed. Subcutaneous tissue thicknesses measured on axial computed...

While the number of female plastic surgeons has continued to increase over time, surgery historically been a male-dominated profession with only 15% practicing being female. Microsurgery, as subspecialty, long perceived an even more male-centric career path. The objective this study was determine representation females in subspecialty field microsurgery and impact microsurgical fellowship training.

Background: Studies demonstrating the positive impact of body contouring on sustained weight loss in bariatric patients describe a narrow cohort. We sought to evaluate post procedures minority race patients. Methods: A retrospective review surgery at single institution was performed. Patients were grouped by: (1) those that underwent contouring, (2) had consultation but did not undergo and (3) without consultation. Purpose Pain is a common side effect of intravenous injection propofol. We conducted randomized, prospective, single-blinded controlled trial to assess the efficacy vibration analgesia on pain during propofol infusion in ambulatory surgery. Methods After institutional review board approval, 100 patients undergoing elective surgery with general anesthesia were randomized into 2 groups.
