It was proposed that resveratrol, a polyphenolic antioxidant and calorie restriction mimetic could promote longevity but subsequent studies not prove this. The original proposal based on the fact grape-derived activate antiaging gene Sirt1. Most agree indeed grape activates Sirt1, question remains whether Sirt1 is cause or consequence of resveratrol treatment. Subsequently, mitochondrial Sirt3 found to be activated. present study ischemic reperfusion (I/R) in rat hearts demonstrates Foxo3a...

This study tested the hypothesis that induction of autophagy by producing therapeutic amounts endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in heart before an ischemic insult would ameliorate/reduce subsequent lethal myocardial ischemic/reperfusion (I/R) injury (similar to preconditioning). A dose-response with both tunicamycin and thapsigargin was performed determine optimal dose (0.3 mg/kg) for inducing cardioprotection. Lipid rafts represent a sub-compartment of the plasma membrane that co-ordinate and regulate varieties signalling processes, whereas caveolins are integral protein lipid raft. Recent evidence demonstrated pivotal role in cardioprotection against ischaemic injury, although their mechanism action is not clear. However, new understanding epigenetic modification during ischaemia reperfusion suggests additional targeted approaches have been explored before. To study caveolin on regulation,...

Resveratrol, a constituent of red wine, and γ-tocotrienol, palm oil are important for cardioprotection. Although microRNAs known regulators genes involved in cardiac remodelling, the regulatory pathway involving microRNA has not been studied so far. We explored cardioprotection by resveratrol, longevinex γ-tocotrienol ischaemia/reperfusion(I/R) model rat determined miRNA profile from isolated RNA. Systemic analyses array theirs targets were using number computational approaches. Resveratrol...

Citicoline is a novel neuroprotective agent used in acute stroke with significantly favorable outcome.A hundred patients who suffered from either an ischemic and hemorrhagic presented to the hospital within 48 h of onset were enrolled for study. Of these 100 (age- sex-matched), 50 treated citicoline along standard management considered as 'cases'. The other administered treatment 'controls.' baseline parameters was assessed using National Institute Health Stroke Scale. reassessed at follow...

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) has been extensively studied as adjunctive therapy for ischemic heart disease, and its cardioprotective ability is well-established. The mitochondrial respiratory chain contains several coenzymes, including CoQ1, CoQ2, CoQ4, CoQ6, CoQ7, CoQ8, CoQ9, CoQ10. It not known whether other CoQs, especially equally present study was designed to determine if CoQ9 could protect guinea pig hearts from ischemia reperfusion injury.
