A retrospective review of 64 patients receiving more than 10 units red cell concentrate plus crystalloid within 12 h revealed two consecutive patterns elevation the partial thromboplastin time (PTT). The surgical technique of aortic valve replacement with freehand glutaraldehyde-treated autologous pericardium is described. Forty-nine patients underwent this procedure without hospital mortality and no thromboembolic episodes anticoagulation. Three reoperation: for infective endocarditis in two; tear one commissure 8 months after surgery another.
