We identified 91 cases of bacteremia due to Stenotrophomonas (Xanthomonas) maltophilia in a prospective, multicenter observational study. The patients were highly compromised; the majority had an underlying malignancy, received immunosuppressive therapy, and indwelling venous catheters. Although 94% antimicrobial agent which blood isolate was susceptible, mortality among these 14 days after onset 21%. Mortality significantly correlated with presence hematologic malignancy or neutropenia...

Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded skin biopsies of lesions erythema multiforme (EM) from 32 patients and 13 controls were examined for the presence herpes simplex virus (HSV) by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) histological findings direct immunofluorescence staining with haematoxylin eosin. HSV-specific DNA was detected in 23 (72%) patients. A history recurrent rash present 59% PCR-positive cases, while 55% had suspected HSV infections. Only two specimens found without a and/or previous oral...

One hundred and twelve biopsy specimens from 98 patients with lesions of necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum were reviewed. Three basic types histopathologic changes noted: (I) palisading granulomatous, (2) tuberculoid, (3) intermediate. The granulomatous type was characteristic the diabetes mellitus while tuberculoid seen almost always in nondiabetic patients. Histologic features intermediate midway between those other two more than twice as frequently nondiabetics diabetics. proposed...

Histochemical study of generalized eruptive histiocytoma (GEH) showed large amounts hydrolytic enzymes, including nonspecific esterase, aminopeptidase, nucleoside triphosphatase, and acid phosphatase, as well the oxidative succinic dehydrogenase dephosphopyridine nucleotide diaphorase, in moderate amounts. Succinic was evenly distributed throughout tumor cells with diphosphopyridine diaphorase only localized foci. The enzymatic signature GEH is similar to that histiocytes normal skin other...

Extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma has been recognized as being histologically indistinguishable from of bone. Although the occurrence extraosseous in deep soft tissues well described, such cutaneous lesions arc rare. We report clinical history, histopathologic findings, and results ultrastructural study this rare variant occurring a 12‐year‐old girl. She presented with dermal subcutaneous tumor left third toe, without osseous involvement. The lesion was composed masses round‐oval cells,...

The increased erythrocyte aggregation observed in diabetes mellitus is mainly due to changes the balance between aggregating factors and anti-aggregating ones, like albumin. Since chronic hyperglycaemia results protein glycation, we examined effect of vitro glycation albumin on its role with blood from 29 Type 1 diabetic patients healthy controls. After addition glycated unglycated albumin, samples had a level 24 % for controls 28 patients. Erythrocyte was determined by analysis light...
